Bracers of Falcon's Aim?

Advice

So I've got a Zen Archer Monk and was flipping through Ultimate Equipment and just reading all the magic goodies to see if I got any "Ooh, gotta have that!" moments.

Normal stuff like haversacks, and efficient quivers were no brainers, but while trying to decide on bracers, I found the Bracers of Falcon's Aim.

Not only are they cheaper than Bracers of Archery, Lesser, they are more powerful (does the same thing, and still buffs perception and gives wickedly awesome crit to bows). I would go so far as to say that they are on par with Bracers of Archery, Greater even.

Has there been an errata on this?

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

They are working as intended.

Bracers of archery are more expensive for only one reason, giving proficiency in any bow. Ironically enough, only people already proficient with bows use them.

Scarab Sages

Bracer's of Falcon's Aim are priced based on the spell item guidelines. Bracers of Archery are priced based on legacy (inflated) prices.

They're banned in PFS, but they are fine in home games.

They are "only" a permanent level 1 spell. The spell is just really good.

See, as a DM, that banned in PFS thing is a big red flag for me. Why are they banned in PFS? Too much bang for the buck? When something gets banned, its usually for a good reason.

They're banned due to the assumption that they're priced improperly, just like Imbicatus said. I remember that discussion well, they were the first of three or four things that got banned literally days before I got to use them on a character who was really excited about getting them.

Grand Lodge

Being banned in PFS should not be a red flag. It defiantly does not mean that the option is "too good"

Some other things that are banned:

Evolved Companion (because summoners are evil...)
All the staves from APG (no clue why they are all banned...)
Wild Caller (because summoners are still EVIL)
Improved Natural Attack (because natural style is evil? ok, you can take it, if you are a ranger with a specific style or an animal companion, but not if you are an Eidolon)
Firearms (unless you are a gunslinger)
Grave Walker Witch, Undeadlord Cleric and Vivesectionist Alchemist

Evolutions are some of the most broken things in the game.

They are all priced wrong. They are legal from Ultimate Equipment. Compare the Staff of Toxins. Same item, it's 12,600 gp in the APG and 34,200 gp in UE.

Monster feats are for monsters unless a specific class ability unlocks them.

Or have the gunsmithing feat.

Those are not banned because of power, but because of theme. They are all pretty clearly evil via fluff.

Can't find the link from my phone at work, but a Paizo rep (I want to say a PFS one, specifically) stated that he had asked the rules team about this item, they had agreed it was under priced, that it required errata, and that was the reason it is currently banned in PFS.

In accordance with that, I have adjusted the price for my home game - 12 out something along those lines. Even at that price it has still been purchased by both archers in 2 years of play, so I see nothing wrong with the adjustment.

These have been errata'd in the years since this thread happened
