Belzen Tribe Alternate Giantslayer

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 57 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I would like to create an alternate Giantslayer campaign. So I will DM a campaign from the minds of the enemy. The idea is to take 12 submissions to form a tribe. Missions will take 4-6 characters out at a time. There will be a fight for tribe leadership early.

I am taking submissions for this alternative game now. Start date will be March 1st, Sunday. I am not given much time to do this but I expect great submissions.

Character creation:
150 gold and 15 pt build. There will be NO arcane involvement so only classes or archetypes without arcane ability. Think of a life on the Belzen warfront for all entries.

I will only take characters races that are of orc, 1/2 orc, goblin, or hobgoblin flavor.

Submission requirements:

A clean profile that is easy to read.

A commitment to regular entry in blog even when not on mission.

Background

Motivation

Appearance

Personality

Encumbrance

Talk to me people.

Sczarni

I would be down for this. I will dot for now.

Sczarni

When you say no arcane involvement do you mean also divine such as paladins, clerics, druids etc... also?

I am thinking either a hobgoblin fighter who takes the racial trait pit boss and uses a whip or a hobgoblin Cavalier (Fell Rider). If I do the Fell Rider what would your suggestions be for a good mount, maybe a dire wolf?

Not sure if I will have time by Sunday to put something together but I will try.

Good start there are some great Hobgoblin traits available in the monster codex. As for beasts let me think about it I haven't finished reading the Belzen, Hold of the Orc Hordes but I know the bestiary in that was interesting at first glance.

Sczarni

Cool. I think I will go with Hobgoblin Cavalier unless I cannot find a suitable mount.

Then I will go decide to go Hobgoblin Pit Boss as my secondary idea.

Dot for now

How about a goblin 'Stitcher'? Alchemist vivisectionist who considers healing the troops to be a unfortunate necessity while thinking up new ways to do his experiments.

Liberty's Edge

I wish full-blooded orcs weren't so meh.

Red Dawg would you be opposed to some race builder adjustments? At the very least it seems like orcs should have some of the options half-orcs do.

Silver Crusade

dot

MannyGoblin - I can agree to look over Alchemist & Ranger secondary abilities with toned down arcane ability.

Feral - I agree there are issues with these races but they are a part of the lands here. Biggest alteration comes from alternate racial traits. No race builder options.

Liberty's Edge

Can orcs give up some of their stuff for half-orc options?

For example, half-orcs can get endurance as a bonus feat. Orcs cannot. =/

Feral wrote:

I would allow conversion of any alternate trait that has a corresponding trait loss. For instance this one does not work - shamans apprentice gives endurance feat but takes away intimidating from half orc. Orcs do not have intimidation trait.

This one works - Beastmaster gives +2 handle animal but takes away ferocity. Orcs have Ferocity trait.

In fairness I would even allow conversion of 1/2 orc traits with those of other races. For instance hobgoblins have alternate trait (scarred) that replaces darkvision. Orcs have Darkvision. This would represent 1/2 hobgoblin 1/2 orc mix. All other stats abilities must come from 1/2 orc race. Possibly allow trait mixes as well with good story.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm. I can work with that.

I assume this is starting at level 1?

How do you feel about bloodrager? Would bloodrager be feasible with a non-arcane reskinning like the alchemist stuff?

Appearance: Manny appears to be an average goblin, albeit one with a puckered-up sour expression whenever someone enters his shop while he is
working on something important to him,(which is most of the time). His beady red eyes gleam whenever he is concentrating on a patient or new potion and his smelly workgarb is stained with splotches and has pockets stuffed with blades, plants and whatever strange objects he thinks he needs.

Background: Many outsiders believe that the goblinoid races are shot-lived savages with no care of life, either their own or others and will regularly abandon the wounded and sick due to some obsession against weakness. Such fools have no doubt set foot in Blezen further than they need to fight. Goblinoid miracles and medicine can be just as effective as any human or dwarf but they don't get all touch-feely with comfy beds and droughts made to be tasty. Foul brews choked down will knit wounds and swiftly wielded needles stitch wounds and rough hands set bones to get
warriors in fighting shape and quickly. Unless your bones are shattered or guts spilling out, there is little reason to moan and whine about
your hurts so get yourself up, you've been bandaged and dosed with numbweed.
Manny is one such stitcher, apprenticed to an orc shaman, he spent his miserable youth being yelled at and mashing plants into poultices and learning how to take apart and put together a body. Manny found himself rather happy to have his nose in a pile of herbs or organs and actually had a blissful expression as he worked, which quickly screwed up into a scowl whenever someone started demanding his skills. Still, he know he has to do something to afford his tools and is willing to patch up visitors in return for money or supplies.
Motivation: Manny, after getting out from beneth the thumb of his master is eager to explore beyond the bounds of his village and use his skills to find new discoveries and subjects to experience. He is fully aware of his small size and spindly limbs and so plans to start grinding up mushrooms and wasp glands for poisons to dip his darts into, and take advantage of his natural goblin sneakiness to be an asset.

I present Aronok Fellrider Hobgoblin Caviler and future General!

This is Varrian Lunari.

I have not listed a mount yet so we can decide what would be best for the region. I wanted to get something up before Sunday so if picked I will work on fleshing out more of his backstory. Right now I have to work tomorrow and have plans on Sunday so I will try and work something else in if possible.

Feral's entry. I ditched the bloodrager idea.

About me:
I've been active on the Paizo boards for a while now and I'm active in several games as both a player and a DM. I was co-DM for a Skull and Shackles PBP on these forums that played through all six books in a four months - one of three AP PBPs on these forums to ever finish. I'm also DMing a CoT game that's in the final battle of book six and am co-DMing a Second Darkness PBP that's made its way to book four in only 14 months. In short, I'm an active regular poster that knows what it takes to keep a game moving and healthy. =P

I'm also an involved player and I'm happy to help out in other ways outside of game such as managing spreadsheets for loot tracking and combat maps.

You know, I applied this guy to another goblin game, but there is a lot of stiff competition over their. Including two other alchemists, I hope you don't mind Me applying him here. I actually like the little fellow lol.

Current Applications:

MannyGoblin - Goblin Alchemist Vivisectionist

Aronok Fellrider - Hobgoblin Cavilier (Fell Rider)

Segovax Halfblood - Orc cavalier (gendarme, beast rider)

Biggs Sparklyfeet - Goblin Alchemist

Let's see how many new Apps we get today.

Can I be skinwalker orc?
This sounds like a lot of fun.

I had a couple of ideas. Would it be possible to play an orc-flavored Tiefling? I would go for the fiendish vessel archetype.

Or could I create a hobgoblin bloodrager (Blood Conduit) who would go into the Antipaladin class after level one?

Liberty's Edge

Both teiflings and skinwalkers are quite a bit stronger than the races he listed.

I agree with Feral on race choices. As this can have some in fighting the strength of characters must be similar and must fit the flavor of tribes in Belkzen.

Again you can choose traits for a 1/2 orc that come from other races as long as it can be traced to a core orc trait. Look back and see earlier conversation.

Is Bloodrager an acceptable class as a dip?

That's fine, I think I'll apply with a goblin hunter then.

background:
From a relatively small and insignificant goblin tribe in the mountains of Belkzen, Kezt is a competent archer and animal trainer. Kezt is in exile from his tribe after being sent on a suicide mission by the tribe's cheftain who despised him after he "accidentally" killed the chieftain's favourite goblin dog mount with a stray arrow in a skirmish with some worgs. His "mission" was to steal an egg from the nest of a roc living on a nearby mountain that had been terrorising the surrounding goblin tribes for the past few months. He grudgingly accepted his fate, knowing he would be killed if he refused. He left his tribe and after two weeks he was presumed dead by the other goblins so there was much surprise when a goblin archer swooped down on the back of a baby roc and shot the chieftain in the heart before flying off. Kezt had not only successfully stolen the egg from the roc's nest when it was out hunting but the egg hatched and he trained the hatchling roc (already the size of a human and capable of flight and hunting) to be a deadly mount. Kezt now lives alone, flying around Belkzen, hunting animals and the occasional lone orc for food and pleasure, training himself in the ways of the bow and training his mount.
He wishes to one day return to his tribe and take over as chieftain but in order to do so he knows he must find wealth and power.

appearance and personality:

Kezt looks basically like any other goblin with green skin, brown eyes and an oversized head. He wears blue war-paint on his face and heavy studded leather armour. He carries a cobbled-together bow and a scimitar made from a dire boar's tusk. His roc companion, named simply "bird" looks like a giant steppe eagle with ruffled, muddied feathers.

Kezt is easily distracted and easily bored. He is cruel and sly but tends to keep his temper and not get angry too often for a goblin unless of course anyone touches or otherwise harms his bird, then all bets or off and he goes into a blind rage and needs to be restrained or he will kill them or die trying. (most likely the latter.)

He is mainly motivated by wanderlust and boredom but also the desire for power and wealth so he can go back to his old tribe and lead them into a position of power among Belkzen's goblin tribes.

Ordrud is a Hobgoblin Slayer

Belkzen doesn't show very many goblinoids. Would appreciate if a Hobgoblin & Goblin tribes could be created/described, so we/PCs can hang our Background/Motivation on it.

Avatar, Equipment, Appearance, Personality are work in progress.

Thoughts on over-sized goblins and monkey goblins?

** spoiler omitted **...

Info on the tribes can be found in the newest campaign guide involving Belkzen

Are you referring to the Giantslayer Player's Guide? Because I can't find any mention of a goblinoid tribe in there. The Empty Hand orc tribe is mentioned.

The orc tribes of Belkzen are numerous.

cheers

orc tribes

I'm excited to see this get started. Did you want us to pick out origin tribes or is that going to be part of the intro for the story?

This is the formation of a new tribe. You are all originating from other tribes and moved on for one reason or another. Death of the tribe, conflict, movement, etc. I would like to see this in backgrounds or played out.

I will select the initial tribe members tomorrow and direct them to gameplay where it will all be laid out.

Bah! The information on the tribes is exceedingly sparse. I'm going to go with Murdered Child only because I know they have a connection to the rather brutal warbeasts used by the orcs which would make sense with Segovax being a cavalier. I'll add a bit to his background about them.

Current Applications:

MannyGoblin - Goblin Alchemist Vivisectionist

Aronok Fellrider - Hobgoblin Cavilier (Fell Rider)

Segovax Halfblood - Orc cavalier (gendarme, beast rider)

Biggs Sparklyfeet - Goblin Alchemist

Kezt Flintshot - Goblin hunter

Ordrud -Hobgoblin slayer

Half the tribe is here

If you don't get the 12 you're looking for by tomorrow are you going to fill the rest of the ranks with NPCs?

Segovax Halfblood wrote:

I will fill it with NPC's and we will move forward.

Don't start without me. Let me dream something up.

Was that a definitive yay or nay to divine casters?

Ok. Clearer. I presume our background should get the PC to Belkzen looking for opportunities.

Ordrud should be finished by the end of the day.

Divine casting is fine.

Yes all characters background should get them to Belkzen region for campaign start.

Looking forward to last few entries. I will give out more info by 6pm cst

May do some type of Saurian druid, should be fun.

Mogrohl, orc barbarian.

I was under the assumption my gobo started in that region :3.
