Dire Weasel as Cavalier Mount???

Hi folks,
is it possible for a 1st level Halfling Cavalier to attain a Dire Weasel as a mount?

I may not care for these new classes, but a dire weasel mount for the order of the cocatrice cavalier would be very fitting. Name him Frey.

He would have to be the Beast Rider archetype, but yes.

Per strict RAW, no. Standard small cavalier is limited to pony or wolf, or boar or dog if 4th level. Beast Rider or Huntmaster doesn't help, as they still have a restricted list.

That said, if it's a home game, ask your GM. I would allow it.

New classes? Cavalier has been in pathfinder for five years. If you want to count D&D, cavalier has been in since unearthed arcana. It's hardly a new class.

Flashback to 1976 and the old encounter charts which listed one entry as "Giant weasels/hogs". We didn't have stats for them, but just imagining the giant hybrid weasel-hogs was enough to get us running for dear life.

I recall Dire Weasels being the mount of choice for Kobolds back in 3.5e D&D. I still need to play a Kobold Paladin some day...

Unfortunately, geckos are not legal for cavaliers either. Hunters, Rangers, and Druids are the only once who can partake of the gecko love.

Cavaliers, like most non-spellcasting classes, cannot have nice things.

RAW the cavalier CAN have other mounts. There's precedent:

"The GM might approve other animals as suitable mounts."

Just, not in PFS or without GM approval. Poor cavaliers.
