So my party currently includes a cleric of Nethys, and I'm a bit worried about what he's planning with some of the other party members. He, along with our alchemist and our barbarian, are saving for some item that would cost him 6,000 gold to make. He says it'll help the party, but he refuses to tell me and our sorcerer as we haven't converted to Nethys, which has got us kinda concerned (he's a bit pushier than most clerics of Nethys on converting people; I'm aware).
We pressed him a little bit, and when we asked if it was some kind of mind-control thing, he got dodgier than normal. So I'm a bit worried about that. The sorcerer would probably be okay, as she has a decent will save, but as a ranger, I'd be pretty well boned.
So my question is: what kind of item might he be crafting for 6,000 gold, and what would me and our sorcerer girl be able to do in preparation, in the event that it is a mind control thing?
Thanks in advance,
~Robin

I don't know. But there is a better way to approach. Go to your GM and talk. Explain your issue. And then ask your GM to include no PVP, which includes attempting to mind control a fellow PC. Or anything that would affect your characters ability to act how you want them to.
This game is not supposed to be about players fighting one another.
If your GM declares no PVP, then he can't do anything to you.
If the GM refuses, kill the cleric when he doesn't expect it. Before he can do something to you.

Put ranks in Profession:Lawyer. When he gives you orders mess them up. Have fun with it.
Silly stuff aside, there are many people asking similar things on these boards. Talk to GM. If he/she is useless then kill him first or get a new group. (What alignment is he? Mind controlling for conversion is pretty evil. All you need to do is get him scanned by the local paladin brigade).
What religion are you? If you have a god then the GM can rule that your god protects you from forced conversion if he needs a good in game reason.
Is this guy normally a problem player?
Most important: Are you using third party? Because then he could be making one of millions of available overpowered gear. There is no good defence against an unknown third party item.
Are all three of them against the two of you in this? Because then there isn't much you can do, because it sounds like they have the heavy melee and the healer.
I can't find anything for under 6000 GP that would allow him to permanently get you (using only core). I'll keep looking.
Do you know if it was 6000 exactly or approximately?

To address everything one at a time:

Is that a thing? Oh my god, that's awesome. LOL

He's far from useless. He's our only good source of healing.

He swears he's true neutral, but he's toed the line of Neutral Evil enough that the party jokes with him about it.

He hasn't done anything specifically to harm us, though he seems to have plot connections to the Whispering Tyrant, so I'm not sure what he's planning behind the scenes. He was worried about the hierophant of Nethys coming to kick his ass after he re-wrote the holy text of Nethys (no I'm not joking), but the GM seemed to not mind (somehow). He did tell me he had a plan to set up scapegoat churches in such an event though, so he could very well be hiding something.
Besides that, nothing except buying out all of the supply of the strange liquid I'm addicted to.Most important: Are you using third party? Because then he could be making one of millions of available overpowered gear. There is no good defense against an unknown third party item.
I'm not sure, unfortunately. I'll ask the GM, because I am a bit curious.

I'm actually more melee proficient than the barbarian, but he does have healing. As for where their alliances lie, the cleric has definitely told them what's going on, but they won't tell us.

He said specifically 6000 GP to make it, so it would have a buying price of 12,000 GP.
Thanks for any help; I'll keep looking too.

Reading it over again just now, there doesn't seem to be any wording about that. However, depending on your DM, they may choose to roll the percentile die (you have a 75% chance it will get it's "resonant power") and may actually roll to randomize abilities. As far as I know most tend to bypass that part and have the powers as listed.
For more info on it and to make sure that it may be something for you, here's the LINK
Hope all that helps.

I'm sure it'd work for our sorcerer girl, but I guess I'll talk to our GM about whether it'd work on me. But yeah, that's mad helpful. Thanks.

What level are you?
I would say given all that, the chances that he is going to mind control permanently into changing religion you is minuscule unless he is using obscure third party stuff.
I wouldn't worry too much. If he gets too bad you can leave, and probability is there is no way to mind control you permanently at that level. It sounds like a bad group, which might mean it's time to leave.
If you want to stay, be ready to fight him, maybe pick up some toys that negate their specific powers (Give me their builds and I could give suggestions), and roll with it.
Profession: Lawyer is something my GM came up with when he realized I do that automatically to mind control. At least it gives me an in game reason for it. Your GM may or may not like this. I think it is just as valid as profession: Gambler which is a real thing.
more questions:
What craft feats does he have?
What is your current will save?
How smart is this guy? Is it likely he is actually going to make something useful and just try to upset you/make you nervous/make you waste money preparing of something that isn't going to happen?
I would love to know how to build a barbarian less melee proficient that a ranger.
