The OP guide says, "Religion: Characters can elect to worship any deity listed in a table of gods in the Core Rulebook, The Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic, or any other source listed as an official Additional Resource. ... Otherwise, characters who do not receive powers from a divine source may choose to be atheists or to have no deity at all."
Does this mean that a non-divine class character could choose to worship a non-legal god, as it has no practical effect? (I'm thinking specifically of this one .)

In Pathfinder Society Organized play, the word "worship" carries a specific connotation.
The connotation, is that in choosing the word "worship" you are taking that Deity as your patron in the effort to gain some game mechanic advantage. Whether that be in giving yourself access to feats, traits, spells, items, or class specific abilities like particular domains, sub-domains, inquisitions, etc. To gain any of this, your alignment must be within 1 step of the deity's alignment.
If you want to follow a deity that you are not within 1 alignment step, or that you have no care about gaining mechanical benefits, then the word to use would be "venerate."
This is not specifically splitting hairs, because the Guide to organized play needs to be able to use some sort of word to determine who gets mechanical benefits and who does not. The word chosen was "worship."

actually, several of my PCs are from Rahadoum and I slap the Pathfinders Tales chronicle for Death's Heretic on them. The first boon from that Chronicle reads something like:
Faithless: Your life in Rahadoum has instilled in you a fierce independence and indomitalb eself-cofidence. So long as you have no patron deity, you gain a +1 bonus on saving throws against divine spells for one scenario. When this bonus is used, cross it off your Chronicle
It is just a one shot Boon - but if you know the scenario is going to have a bunch of divine casters in it....

well sure, if you're ACTUALLY a paladin. nothing stopping you from being a zealot in full plate claiming to be a paladin with a crazy high bluff skill tho.

actually, I can... but usually I just assume everything is evil. enemies of the faith, after all.
I just warn the GM before the game... "I detect evil" means I'm talking out my ass, "do I detect evil?" means I'm casting the spell.
I'm still working on some of the more nuanced bits of paladin abilities, but I think I can pull it off well enough. I can't wait for paizocon!
