I first met Rick in 1980 at PrinceCon in Princeton, NJ. They used to pit the good players vs the evil ones in a sort of grand melee for awards in that less-enlightened time of sometimes-competitive rpg gaming. I will forever remember his merciful treatment of my evil priest, when he used a gentle hold person spell on me and spared my life. From that moment forward we were good friends.
He always had a kind word for everyone, and was never flustered no matter what life threw his way. He was a rock in the storm always, and we are all diminished by his passing.
Rest in peace dear friend. You will be forever missed.

A beautiful posting, June. Though you're probably right that Rick wouldn't have wanted us to be sad, I'm afraid that I can't oblige. He was one of the nicest people I've met. I never got to know him as much as I wanted to, unfortunately, but I consider myself blessed to have interacted with him as much as I did. He was an inspiration, and such a kind person. I will miss him. The world has lost a great person, the sort of which there are already far too few. My condolences especially to his family, and to those who were lucky enough to have known him better than I.

I can say I have had the pleasure to to GM for him, have him GM for me and to have played our characters together at the same table. He brought enjoyment to every table he sat at, and I considered him both a fine game and friend.
I will miss him and send my condolences to his family and all his friends, near and far, whom he touched with his actions and deeds on both sides of the screen.

Rick was a great player, but a greater person. Always easy to talk to and be around. He had a strong knowledge of the rules as a player and as a GM but always played and ran to tell a memorable story. We all always looked forward to having Rick at the table whether it was at a convention, game store or when he often opened his home to us. While his battle was long, he never let it affect those around him and was always positive. He was a true asset to our community, a true friend, and will be sorely missed.

I had the pleasure to meet Rick late last spring and had the honor and privilege to be a regular at his table throughout last summer until the group had to move to another location. Rick was a person of great character and kindness. He immediately made all those at his table feel comfortable. I greatly enjoyed our sessions that Rick GM'ed throughout the summer. He exhibited all the positive qualities that define a stellar GM. He will be sorely missed around the gaming tables of Northern New Jersey, for sure. I hope that his spirit will live through the hearts of all those who had the chance to know him. My deepest condolences to his wife and family and to all his friends and fellow gamers.

I'm saddened by this news, as I played with Rick a number of times while I lived in New York. I'll always remember a game of The Frozen Fingers of Midnight he ran as a slot 0 for me and other GMs in the NYC PFS region, because it was during this game that I learned of the passing of my grandmother. Rick was extremely caring that night, and while I continued the game, he was very understanding and gave me as much time as I needed to compose myself. I hadn't played with Rick for many years before reading this, but I remember him as a kind, fair, and fun GM, and I'm sad for the New Jersey Pathfinder Society community, his family, and many friends.
