Magus / Paladin or Holy Arcane warrior

Advice

The Exchange

Hello,
I want to play to a paladin for the gods of Magic. Not really sure how best to pull this off. Is there a arcane spell that will give me basic smite type feature. so I can go all Magus? I saw an old thread on a build like this and it really got me thinking. Would love to get some ideas on how this would work. Weapons prefer Shadow Weapon spell. Use for broadsword, Heavy Lance when mounted on phantom steed. something like that.

Shadow Weapon is kind of a terrible spell, and I'm not sure if the Magus even gets access to it.

As for a Magus/Paladin, if you are multiclassing, know that not only will you lose caster levels, you will more importantly be behind when it comes to spell progression, which is something the Magus already struggles with.

If you are only dipping 2 levels into Paladin for the saves, then you can take the Magical Knack trait to negate the caster level loss, but you'll still be behind on spell progression.

If you still want to make the build work though, then take a look at the Eldritch Scion archetype for the Magus, which runs all of his class features on CHA instead of INT. That way you don't have as many issues with being MAD, since the Paladin also runs on CHA. Do note that your skills will suffer though.

I'm not really sure if mounted combat is the best for the Paladin, let alone with the Magus, since it's pretty feat intensive to get good at it, but so's a Magus.

Alternatively, you could just try to be a single classed Magus and pretend to Smite things by getting the Precise Strike ability from a series of Arcana (Flamboyant Arcana + Arcane Deed). It's almost as good as Smite. Sort of. Maybe.

You can accomplish this with full Paladin, if you don't mind a little alignment oddness. The Sanctioned Knowledge feat lets you pull from the Bard Spell list for a few arcane spells, and it's well worth getting anyways. You could also play a Samsaran and pull some divine spells off the Druid and Shaman spell lists that make thematic sense. But then, you could do the same thing for an Oracle, dress him up as a warrior, and pull the elemental/arcane-ish spells you need as a Samsaran.

There are also a few straight divine spells that emulate Smite Evil, like Smite Abomination, and again, if you use some Samsaran goodness, you can even pull some of the iconic Paladin abilities emulated through spells off of their spell list.

A question, if you will: Why do you need Smite to be a paladin?

Why not just play a Magus and act like a Paladin?

Use frost bite on spellstrike it is level +1d6 to Dam. Thet is close enough. But you Can also just be a paladin that worships the gods of magic.

All very good. That's why I made the thread. I did not if a Paladin could be pulled off as a flavor thing or not. The concept I was going for comes from skyrim kind of. If you played a conjurer you could summon your weapons, and Armor, and your mounts. This I know can be done a couple of different ways in pathfinder. Combat wise anyways that will be what I go for. Role playing wise I will go for the paladin as a flavor. A Magus that serves as a "paladin" to the gods of Magic.

Shadow Weapon is a terrible spell but I love shadow Magic. Leave it to the dice to decide if the spells sucks. Could be really bad and do only 1 point of damage or could be totally sweet. Is there a way to get paladin spells on a magus spell list with out some rule bending? The spell in am trying to get would be instant Armor.

If you go human you Can take racial heritage(gnome) and get mercyfull as a enchant option on the arcane pool as a favored class thing.
That is neat if you want to use enforcer.

I like that Mercyfull, is something I would like to take. It will suit a not murder play style I will use. My character will not kill if I don't have too.
