Goblins of Glorian Resource - Use in PFS?

Pathfinder Society

The Exchange 1/5 5/5

I am exclusively a PFS player who recently purchased the pdf of Goblins of Glorion.
And as much as I crave the unobtainable opportunity to play a Goblin in PFS, I do understand that this is not a viable option, and that is beyond the fact that goblin boons are an extremely coveted but unobtainable commodity.

However, that shouldn't mean that I couldn't play some other permitted race with flavorings of goblin-ness. And yet the specific and unprecidented wording in the Additional resource file makes it sound as if there is nothing in this resource that the typical player can use in PFS. This all-encompassing verbiage could be interpreted to mean that the three spells and four magic items are also unusable by non-goblin PFS characters.

Given this along with my rather slim financial resources, I would like either for the wording to be corrected to fix this issue or that I get reimbursed for this now-made-useless resource.

Could somebody please direct me on how to get one of these two outcomes advanced?

I don't know how recently you purchased Goblins of Golarion, but that language has been on the AR for quite a while now. And, the language does mean that nothing in the book is legal, unless you are applying it to an actual legal PFS goblin character. And that is/was the intent.

I am currently unemployed. Is there a way to get my money back?

I'd be very surprised if you could get your money back for this... why is it Paizo's fault?

What Kevin tried too subly to tell you, probably to avoid coming off too harsh, is that Goblins of Golarion has had nothing legal since the start.
Its always a good thing to check the additional recources before you buy something.

Your best bet would be to contact customer support. While I think its a slim chance you get your money back, they might let you swap it for a different PDF worth the same amount.

I am not trying to point fault. But I am trying to keep my actions legal by buying any resources needed to stay PFS legit.

But your question does make me wonder, are there other resources created by PFS that aren't PFS legal? And if so, do they just say, flat out that they aren't?

If your question is about whose fault it is that I am poor and unemployed, It is only mine.

I am unsure what you mean by 'created by PFS'. Goblins of Golarion was not created for Pathfinder Society. Paizo created it to be used in adventure paths and homebrew, as Goblins are a very popular race. (who doesnt love the little anklebiters...?)

The only items Paizo exclusively creates for Society are the senarios we use.

All other products are eventually added to the Additional Resources as people want to know if they can use it for PFS too.

I suppose a trade would be acceptable. Could anybody point me to the link?

Thanks

ps the "PFS" was a typo. I just meant "PF"

The Pathfinder Society campaign uses the Pathfinder rules, but not all of them -simply because not every option works for a shared campaign where you might have a different GM and group at every game.

As to returning a digital product... well, I don't know any company in the world that accepts that, since you can copy them and no one would know. Don't let someone's post here get your hopes up, Woran is not a paizo employee (as far as I know) and is being overly optimistic, I think.

Best thing to do is to run a home game with goblins in it! If you'er playing PFS, you obviously know some other people - they don't have to play PFS every game. It can be refreshing to play something without the PFS rules once in a while.

And that is good. However, given the situation, I'm just saying it might be best to check the AR before you buy if there's something you're looking at.

Kobolds of Golarion is completely illegal. It is not mentioned on the AR at all.

A number of things from Goblins of Golarion are legal for play in PFS, and that is why it is listed on the AR. Along with the limitations on usage, namely a goblin boon.

Look at the new Monster Codex to see how they can really split the use out of a book too. Some sections are legal for everyone, some sections have nothing for anyone, and some sections are legal only for folks playing that race.

I've played D&D since 2nd edition. But the one recurrent problem is that groups fall apart, people move, get married, get sick, etc. I've watched several games degrade before a character can see its full potential. Its nobody's fault - life happens

But what PFS creates is a special, unique environment. One in which you're not required to have the same five people regularly have there schedules synch up. I'm very grateful for its creation. But this is is all probably just preaching to the choir...

I'm not likely to ever play a home game ever again. Besides for the given reasons, being unemployed also means no place to call "my home".

Wow! that was amazingly painless and quick. PF gave me immediate store credit. Thank you everyone for your help.

Removed a rude post and reply. Some people are newer to PFS and Pathfinder, and a question which may seem obvious to you may not be to others. There's no need for this kind of negativity.

Nice story.^^ Always nice to hear about things like this.

If you want to get that goblin feeling, may I suggest halflings, alchemists and the scenario by way of bloodcove?

So, this is yet more proof that Paizo is the best game company ever. Like we needed more evidence.
