[PFS] Oread Nature Fang Druid Help?

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hey all, so I have an Oread boon for PFS that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. I'm also intrigued by the Nature Fang archetype for Druids, and I feel like this race would work pretty well with it.

I'm not super sure what this archetype is good at, though. It's decent at combat, and it also comes with 9th levels of spell progression. I've never played a druid or any kind of full caster before, so I'm not really sure where to start, or where to focus. I'm thinking taking the animal companion would be best, to serve as a flanking partner, but again I don't really know what I would pick (although I would likely pick something based more because "that's a cool animal to have" than "well which ones have pounce").

Grand Lodge

Oreads have bonuses to Strength and Wisdom, which make them great for any wisdom caster class that also fights. If you'd like to do this with a pet starting at first level, your options are:

  • Druid
  • Sacred Huntsmaster Inquisitor Archetype
  • Hunter

If you don't need 1st level access to the pet, other options with later pet access include:

  • Inquisitor (Deity with Animal Domain)
  • Ranger
  • Cleric (Deity with Animal Domain)

Nature Fang is interesting because it gets Slayer Talents, which means that you can get access to Ranger Combat Styles and be a switch hitter. If you are going combat druid, you'll likely be going with a more melee build so that you can fight alongside your companion.

The druid list includes a lot of "selfish" spells -- buff spells that are personal only -- which you can use to buff yourself or your pet. The druid list also includes some great area effect and battlefield control spells. And this is not counting the wild shape abilities and summon's nature ally abilities. It's a very interesting class!

I wanted to list some of your other pet options though so you could be aware of them. The hunter and the Sacred huntsmaster both get bonus teamwork feats that they can share with their animal which could be very effective in combat.

Have fun playing your Oread!

I know that you say you haven't played a full caster before. Have you played a pet class before? If not, I have a great guide to recommend to you...

Hmm

Scarab Sages

I would suggest the Crocodile Domain over an animal companion. You gain a small sized familiar that you can still use as a flanking buddy, and with barkskin and some armor it can be reasonably hardy. You also get some great domain spells, and more sneak attack to stack with the lone SA die Nature Fang gives you.
