Certain spells use the above verbage.
Vampiric touch
create pit
My question is how does it increase?
for create pit...the depth is 10ft per two levels.
My interpretation is....
level 1 10ft
level 2 10ft
level 3 20ft
level 4 20ft
level 5 30ft(max)
My friends interpretation is....
level 1 10ft(minimum)
level 2 10ft
level 3 10ft (3 divided by 2 rounded down)
level 4 20ft
level 5 20ft (5 divided by 2 rounded down)
level 6 30ft (maximum)
Please provide clarify below....also if you can find a source that would be awesome. My searching has only come up with opinions and conjecture.

Your friend is correct, and the source is plain English. How many "two caster levels" have you achieved? That is the amount you use.
At level 1, you've achieved two caster levels zero times.
At level 2, you've achieved two caster levels once.
At level 3, you've achieved two caster levels once.
At level 4, you've achieved two caster levels twice.
And so on.

So total up your caster levels and divide them by 2 and then multiply that by 10 and that's how deep your pit is.So at level 2 it's 20ft.

Ugh, that's what I get for typing something on my phone while driving...

I live in Oklahoma and travel around in the more barren parts of the state a lot for my job. It's so flat I can see for 10 miles in either direction and empty enough that I'm not likely to see anyone anytime soon. Taking my eyes off the road for a second every now and then wont hurt anyone...though it does appear to hinder my ability to type out basic math. Go figure.

That's a horrible excuse and a bad habit to get into. It doesn't matter whether or not you're "sure" there's no danger in doing it. It's still just a bad idea.
