Looking for fifth player for Curse of the Crimson Throne

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 138 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Hello, all! Due to several IRL problems, we're in need of a fifth player for our PbP Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign. The current party make up is:

Adoros Porphyria, gun-toting Chelaxian cavalier
Teodor Niculescu, mad cleric of Groetus
Gadriel, street urchin and witch
Korriban Balros, silver-tongued Varisian rogue

We are in need of either a tank or a full arcane caster. We just caught Trinia Sabor in the Shingles chase and are about to try and hide her. For the crunch, here's what's needed:

Level We're currently 3rd level.

The Norv wrote:

Ability Scores 20-point buy.

Race and Class I will consider anything published by Paizo (and, in the case of race, with a reasonable RP--no Drow Nobility, please). However, if you choose an obscure race or class, I must ask for a good backstory to support it. If you're playing a ninja or a samurai, how did you get this training? Or, if you're a native of Tian Xia, how did you end up in Korvosa? If you're playing a human ethnicity, please provide as many details as you can--eg. Shoanti Quah, relative rank in Chelaxian nobility, etc.

Alignment Any non-evil.

HP Max at first level.

In addition, at each level after first, add half die + 1 + Con to your hit points.

Gold and Gear Use Character Wealth by Level for third level. This may change based on Norv's input. Also, if you want to purchase property (per Guide to Korvosa) and have the means to do so, you can.

The Norv wrote:

Traits Use one from the Player's Guide and one other one.

Background I highly recommend both the Player's Guide (above) and the Guide to Korvosa, if you have it. Briefly detail who you are, why you're in Korvosa, what Gaedren has done to you, and what you want from life beyond your immediate, Gaedren-centric goals.

EXTRA CREDIT This is optional, but I would love to see characters "in action" for a brief passage. Therefore, if you want, write up a short exchange/description of the first time you found out who Gaedren Lamm was. Again, totally optional, but will be greatly appreciated.

Again, we're looking for a tank type character or a full arcane caster. Thank you!

Would you be able to fit a Sorcerer and a weapon master fighter in? My uncle and I have characters that could be ready with a few minor adjustments.

I have an idea for a full caster with a pet.
A only half dedicated caster who had come to the academe in hopes of learning some of the most potent secrets of the universe only to discover that just like any other wizards the one in the school would release nothing without being forced.
An outsider he followed the schools desires of summoning being a focus, but he found the concept of summoning the echoed forms of creatures tedious.
He researched the nature of familiar bonds, began delving deeper into older magic forms and eventually stumbled onto Ley-line magic in general.
Using the powers he had learned and some luck he bolstered the common ritual of obtaining a familiar with the ancient magic researched and empowered by the ley-line.
Unfortunately it worked too well, he does his best to hide the results of a far too close encounter with an ancient nature spirit. It makes his life interesting when birds decide he is an excellent place to nest on and some form of neanderthal wolf-dog has taken up residence in his dormitory.
So in order to hide his strange abilities (and theft of ancient tools, implements along with other things that would get him expelled) he decided to take a sabbatical from the mages guild in order to discern further how this would affect him.
He was getting by on bread and learning more about his nature focused abilities when he Lamm dropped into the picture, like a shark sensing blood in the water the wily old fisherman managed to grasp a basic idea on his troubles. And all he had to do 'ta make sure ol' lamms-y din't tell a blessed soul was a few 'small tasks'.
What a rabbit hole that one was.

Or something like that.
Crunch wise he would be a Blood specialist Arcanist with the Sylvan bloodline. (the archetype that lets him get the full benefits of a bloodline rather than just some of it.)
Wolf companion.
Boon companion feat to bolster the AC up to the same level as a druid.
Past that he'd be a full arcane caster mostly filling the wizard slot.
Might take feats later on to access a Familiar in addition to an animal companion.
I'm enjoying the idea of a surprisingly intelligent wolf and an imp far too full of himself and his heritage.

What's your opinion on the Harrower prestige class?

I'm not mad, it's the rest of you lot that's mad.

I'll post a full arcane (Elven Arcanist) caster when I get home from work this evening.

Teodor, that's basically how Norv described you. But, then again, you probably have some awareness that we're ignorant to. :D

Rivenhelper, we could fit in the sorcerer or weapon master. What do the stat blocks look like?

Movin, interesting idea. I'm pretty sure that an Arcanist might be acceptable due to the fact that we had a playtest brawler at the start. But then again, it's Norv's call in the end. Please come up with a full stat block so we can get an idea.

Me'mori, most likely according to the set up, the Harrower prestige class might be okay. Again, it's Norv's call. So, would you be playing a Harrower type of character? There's a Harrow sorcerer bloodline.

Vitesse, okay. Can't wait to see it.

Just a quick question, does anyone want a breakdown of the roles of the current members of the party?

Well, I have a character that could be cool:

Dorri Chorach the invulnerable rager Dwarf. Friendly, smashy guy. Also, his backstory is monstly in song.

backstory:
Corus:
“Dorri Chorach, the angry dwarf
Was said to be born
In a storm
On a warf

Always angry, all the time
He would never have the patience to listen to my rhyme
And of his life would always say,
“I wish I could simply smash all day”

Verse 1:
His parents never did know what to do
When the babe’s smashy moods
Made him smash away in his foods
Made them black & blue

Verse 2:
So they sent him away to their uncle dear
A man who was so very austere
But of this child, the man knew not what make
He left naught but destruction in his wake

Verse 3:
So he sent him to his cousin (twice removed)
A wild man of whom he disapproved
In the cousin Dorri found
A mentor, reliable as the ground

Verse 4:
But when a dragon took his mentor away
Dorri truly knew not what to say
So he left to find some other lands
Where he might use his furious hands.”

While that is his general backstory, here's more:
His parents had originally immigrated from the town of Janderhoff to Korvosa for work. There, the troublesome Dorri was sent to his "wild" cousin who trained him as a barbarian. Now he has returned to see his parents, only to find the city in CHAOS, and his little niece (his mentor's sister) missing!

I still need to update the character sheet (will be done tonight), but the general idea is there. I would be taking the "Missing" trait, while he searches for his niece (the sister of his mentor). I'll also try to get the extra credit up tonight!

I would be curious about pre-existing party roles, if only not to step in anyone's shoes by accident.

Grand Lodge

Dorri sits in front of you, holding a mug of ale while sitting at a table
Ach, here's ma story:

Who A am:
Chorus:
“Dorri Chorach, the angry dwarf
Was said to be born
In a storm
On a warf

Always angry, all the time

“I wish I could simply smash all day”

Verse 1:

THAT DAMN GAEDREN:

HE TOOK MA NIECE! My cousin made me promise to watch over his family! And I come home, and his sister is GONE! punches table, but then takes on a more somber tone When A first spoke to my aunt when I got home, she said she had been missing for weeks. So I started looking everywhere, asking for help. But those damn coppers don’t do nothing good. Then in the market one day I coulda sworn I saw her with some urchins. I cried out her name, but she and the urchins ran. I asked one of the folk who those little buggers where, and he said they where pickpocket workin for some sod name Gaedren. My niece, a CRIMINAL! I could barely hold myself back from breaking something. starts sobbing in his beer

Long-term goals:

In the long term? I dunno. Aint much of a thinking person. I would like to find that dragon that took my cousin. Maybe make the city safer for all kids like ma niece, since clearly the cops aint doing their job.

Hi, williamoak! This is tieflingwizard. Why is it that we always seem to cross paths? Anyway, Dorri seems interesting in build. Besides, a dwarf provides more diversity to our all human group. Although, the alias can't be PFS though.

As for party roles, here's how I see it break down. Gadriel, Adoros, and Teodor, feel free to change anything if I get something wrong or don't bring something up.

Adoros - He's a Chelish nobleman. In terms of build, he's a cavalier (Order of the Cockatrice) with the Luring Cavalier and Musketeer archetypes. He does a great amount of damage from afar with his musket and his abilities support that. Able to draw his weapons quickly and get into the combat (also can hold his own in melee). He also has his tactician ability (which hasn't been used as of yet).

Teodor - A cleric to Groteus. He is our primary healer. He also has the highest Bluff out of all of us. So, he takes up the shared role of party face. He also can fight in melee. He has spells like Enthrall, Hold Person, and Touch of Idiocy. He also has two summon monster spells, which are enhanced by his Dark Tapestry subdomain ability. His domains are Void/Dark Tapestry and Madness/Nightmare Domains. So, he also provides debuffs and bolstering spells. He also provides some of the quips.

Gadriel - The youngest of the team. She's a normal witch of the Agility Patron. Her familiar is a monkey named Abu. Her acrobatics bonus is insane. She also has the highest Intelligence. She mainly provides buffs, rebuffs, and minor healing. But, where she truly shines is with her hexes. She has said that for the most part, all of her bonus feats will Extra Hex. As she puts it, she'll be an SLA swiss army knife.

Korriban - Finally, I am the party rogue and the dexterity fighter. I also have the highest Diplomacy bonus. So, I'm one of the faces and skill monkeys. However, I also specialize in my rapier. At fifth level, I would be taking levels in fighter (lore warden) and, eventually, levels in Duelist. My dexterity and intelligence will increase as we level up (though, my intelligence will be no where near Gadriel's). Also, Korriban's backstory provides a location (a brothel) and a group of npcs (employees/family). I also provide the other quips.

If you want to take a closer look at our characters, you can click on the links to our aliases in the OP.

So, Dorri wouldn't be stepping on any toes with this group. Seems like Dorri would be a good frontline fighter/tank for our group.

I'd like to submit Valerianna Shard for your consideration. At present, she's built mostly as a front-liner, with some middling ability to shoot a bow should the need arise.

At first I had intended to style her as a Ranger coming out of the Sable Marines, but in the end decided for something a little simpler and settled on Slayer. I also figured her focusing her melee effectiveness on her glaive will afford more opportunities for her and Korriban to enjoy flanks and sneak attacks.

Thanks for giving her a look! =)

I'll change the alias tonight (I've yet to use him for PFS anyway), and update the build to level 3 as well. Cheers!

I would like to submit Diamon 'Silverhand' Erlatt for review. He's a Warder archetype, known as a Zweihander Sentinel, from the Path of War.

Background:
Diamon is the son of a little-known, but very proud, Dwarven Blacksmith. His father, Karn Erlat, taught his son the craft from a very young age. Showing him how to mold steel, iron, and even stone, to bend to his will and shape it to the exact shape he wanted.

In his teens, Diamon was issued a dare by other up and coming smiths. His town of Brairthorn was known for producing some talented crafters of all kinds. One such Dwarf, Letar, made the outrageous claim he could stick his hand into molten silver and come out unarmed. He demonstrated this trick, dipping his fingers in water, dunking his fingers in, and drawing it out, unharmed.

Diamon felt he could do one better. He stuck his whole arm in a barrel of water and stuck it into the molten silver, and left it there. For too long. He found himself screaming in agony as hot silver dripped from his arm and burned it severely.

After that, the silver had strangely tinted the skin of his left arm grey, and no hair would grow, leaving it smooth as the metal itself. Karn, in disbelief his son would do such an idiotic dare, stopped his teachings and left Diamon to pick up a new craft. But, given the incident, no one would teach him.

Armed with what knowledge he had, and some basic combat training, Diamon set out into the world to make a name for himself and find someone who would be willing to further his knowledge in Blacksmithing.

Gaedram Lamm:
The first time the Dwarf dealt with Lamm was when he came to the his lean-to of a shop he had set up in the Old Quarter of Korvosa. Gaedram claimed to run this part of the city, and demanded money from Diamon for protection purposes.

He was chased out by an enraged Dwarf wielding his smithing hammer like a maul.

That night, Lamm sent a couple of his cronies to teach Diamond a lesson. Sneaking into his hovel, they held him down in his bed, tied him up, and proceeded to destroy what few goods he had to sell. Also, they tried to break his smithing hand, the gloved one to cover his silver skin, but found they couldn't do it. Before they could use his own hammer to do the job, some of the town watch was approaching to investivate the noise.

The thugs escaped, leaving Diamon to be freed by the guards. After that, he closed up shop and began his hunt for this Gaedram Lamm. Intending to use his tongue to clean his forge.

Personality and Goal:
Diamon is a very driven Dwarf, seeking tirelessly to expand on his craft in any way. He tends to be somewhat overbearing and blunt in conversation, not bothering to mince his words. He can be incredibly competitive in contests of strength and skill, and very short-tempered when it comes to those who disrespect him because of race or name. He has beliefs firmly rooted in tradition and family, and trains constantly to better himself.

His ultimate goal is to be able to go back to his father and show him how much he's learned, how accomplished he's become, and prove that he needn't be ashamed of his somewhat hot-heated son anymore.

A am here, A am here. Ye can find ma completed sheet in ma profile.

Hrmm... think I will withdraw interest on this one.
With a witch in the party I fear I'd step on far too many toes as an arcanist.

Movin: It's okay. Thank you for the interest anyway.

Dorri: Nice. I am interested in seeing the stat block. Should be fun!

Tyeal: Very nice. However, I'm unfamiliar with the Path of War classes. And I am unsure if our GM will accept it.

Dal Selpher: Looks good! Didn't expect a Slayer to be a frontline fighter. I haven't played as that class, but I assumed that it would be for those players who want to play an assassin type of character without being limited to an evil alignment.

Also, I'm rather curious. What happened to your characters after we killed Lamm? Maybe this will make it into the game. Maybe it won't. Think of it as additional extra credit.

Can't wait to see what other entries come up!

Ma stat block can be found at the link in the "Homepage URL" section of ma profile.

And WHAAAA! Lamm is DEAD! What happened! WHERE IS MA NIECE YE *expletives*!

I havent a clue as to what happened (since I dont habitually read APs) so I would be curious to know since it could inform his reaction. Is his niece free? Has she been taken even further? He doesnt know! He is also very emotional, intensily happy, angry and sad. He will swear, sob & skip, depending on the occasion

Slayer is kind of neat in my eyes because of this. As it's a hybrid of ranger and rogue, you can focus on either aspect really well based on your talent selections. With a full BAB progression, proficiency with up to medium armors, and a d10 hit die - they can front line just as well as any ranger ever could but with the added bonus of sneak attack.

---

As for what Valerianna would do discovering she was too late and others got to Lamm first? After ensuring her nephew was safe at home once more, she would return to work like normal and continue to do as Kroft encouraged: looking into matters "off the clock", so to speak. There'd be plenty of opportunity to run into the current party and work together to meet a mutually held goal.

Never would have thought. Guess you learn new things everyday! Looks good either way.

Alright! Erstwhile GM here. Let's see...

The one edit to Korriban's layout above: while you're certainly welcome to take traits from the player's guide to CotCT, as people have noted,

Spoiler:
Gaedren Lamm is already dead!! So
you won't get much in the way of closure on that front; feel free to take two traits from other sources. As far as background goes, I'm happy to reveal the following suggestions, spoiler-free, for people who want to craft backstories that will be easy to fit into the upcoming events:

--If your character knows, is related to, or has worked for/with/under Field Marshall Cressida Kroft (particularly as some kind of specialized field agent) of the Korvosan Guard, that would make it easy to build them in.
--If your character has some connection--however tangential--to the Shoanti clans of Varisia, enough to make them want to look out for the Shoanti's interests in Korvosa, that would work too. Note: If you wish to play a Shoanti, make sure you have some reason to stay in Korvosa.

Of course, any background you want to propose is open to consideration, including ones regarding Lamm.

As to specifics...Valerianna and Dorria are both interesting characters. Tyeal, I'm afraid I have to say that I'm pretty leery of the Warder class; I don't own the book (which means I don't have any good idea of what the maneuvers are), but looking it over on d20pfsrd.com it seems pretty potent. It has a paladin's BAB and saves, but d12 HD and what looks like a more robust array of abilities, at least at early levels. So unless you can make a very convincing argument, I'm going to have to suggest that you pursue some other class. I do like the story--perhaps a paladin of Abadar (or just a fighter)?

We'll keep recruitment open a little longer--I'll announce our choice (or possibly choices) on Monday night or so.

Thanks for your interest!

Id like to submit my idea too please!

Gnome barbarian titan mauler!

This can be added to the background of Dorri Chorach. It details a bit more of his time with his "master", including doing some mercenary work for the Korvosa guard. Seems like a good fit. I'll also adjust the sheet with a new trait soon.

When A was learning the barbarian way from ma master-cousin, we often cleaned up little messes. A nest O' orcs here, a gaggle O' goblins there. We even got a medal from the Captain of the guard Cressida Croft for rooting out a tribe O' gnolls! Twas a fine day, and we were kept on the payroll afterwards. Orders did'nae come often, but there was always smahing tae do when they did! They tried to help me out when ma master was taken by a Dragon, but heh, they aint that strong!

Nice character idea, Seth!

I know I'm super tardy to the party, but I think I've got time to whip something up. I can't make any promises for statblocks, but I promise at least a backstory and the like :)

Just a reminder, we also are looking for applications from arcane casters as well. We need either a tank type character or an arcane caster.

For some reason I had thought this was already filled up so I didn't post earlier, but I see from this thread that I appear to be mistaken, so I'm posting this in case it's not too late - Scienter Whitfield, Elven Arcanist. Some background details under "About Scienter," and more details under "Further Background," including his connection with Gaedren Lamm.

I was wanting to submit my aasimar (angel-kin) dragon bloodline sorcerer, he would be a buffer and secondary melee. really want to work the close range angle with him.

If you are still seekimg a mage I would like to apply.
I am new to this forum so if I do not reply here please PM as I may not have seen reply.

Yeah, recruitment should end soon. Just thought that Norv should have a few more candidates to choose from. Also, Scienter, Norv said that since Lamm is dead, you can choose from two normal traits, rather than one campaign trait and one other trait. Don't know if it changes in your case. I would think that you're okay.

It's okay. If you're chosen, we'll let you know.

Also, random topic, just for fun. I'm rather curious as to what everyone's IC thoughts are about the members of the current team. Again, this is just for fun.

This is my 1st level wizard that I'm trying to get into a game. I can bump him to 3rd easy enough if he's picked for this game.

Ah! Another worshipper of Calistria! Good to meet you!

IS there anything you still need from Gyro Doomblade?

I personally like this small gnome with a tough body, shield and a two handed weapon in 1 hand :P

oh. at lvl4 he gets an extra 17hp to his total. WOOT :P =^^=

No, Gyro seems good. I like the fact he also makes weapons. I'm just thinking of the weapons that he can forge. You know Korriban's going to be asking for rappers.

Also, 17 more hp at level four? Wow. That is nuts. He sounds like he would be a bada** for sure.

well. here we go :

7 from class
at lvl4 +1 to con, so 18 con, makes +4, so+3 from other levels
+1 from fav class
+1 from toughness

7+7+1+1

sorry, 16 hp :P
but still :P

then from there on, with no bonusses to con, 13hp per level

Rappers??

And yes, plus he is profficient in any weapon he made himself. so yey :P

Dang autocorrect. I mean rapiers.

Korriban Balros wrote:

sure thing, after i make my Adamant great sword :P

Although, since Korriban has ranks in sing, I'm sure he can throw down those dope beats and sick rhymes. Lol.

Also, adamantium great sword? Jeez. That sounds kind of scary.

He's not a fighter, so his dps is low. he's there to soak etc. So thinking feats like iron will, sunder, and other buffs from feats, outside those of spells.

And soak damage he will. I have no doubt about that. It's also funny how the other characters will be behind something half their size.

he has to catch up first.... but yes... hopefully not trying to HIDE :P

almost want to get sopmething to do with poison resists so he can go toe toe toe, not actual eye to eye, but toe to toe with a dwarf and win... at drinking :P

Wow. Sounds like it'll be a fun character.
