Gnomes and Halflings need not apply.
Just kidding. So I thought it would be fun to see what ideas the Peoples of the Paizo have come up with. Let's get started.
1. A young fellow from a almost all magic family needed power because he has stupid fingers and found worshiping Nethys just for spells to be dishonest. To keep his standing in the family he discovered the Mediums's Path.
2. A young woman was in a desperate situation and needed power quickly. After researching in some old tomes kept in the back corner of the Temple of Irori she tapped a small amount of psychic power and called to the spirits for power. After the trial had passed she thought to continue learning as a Medium. While learning the path maybe relatively easy, mastering it is far more of a challenge.
3. An asimar channels the spirits of his celestial ancestors.
4. A young woman with psychic potential and a great faith in a small personal pantheon of gods channels them as a budding Avatar.

5. A powerful barbarian put at risk his own life in a quest to free himself from his wild fury that forced him to harm family and friends. His deity rewarded him with the power to bridle and unbridle not only the Bear spirit that had made him suffer, but other spirits as well. Now he's the respected shaman chief of his tribe.

7.) The spirits that you channel are all ghosts with unfinished business. You help them fulfill the goals that they couldn't finish in life. Said ghosts depart for the afterlife once these goals are fulfilled. However, the next day another spirit seems to pop into your life; your reputation as a ghost-helper grows with each spirit you aid. There are a lot of ghosts who need your aid, after all.

11. Some believe that, before being born, many souls are interconnected in a manner that hints at their destiny. In this case, the spirits with which you interact are your 'fellow travelers', who never made it into the material world Their archetypes are related to what might have been, and perhaps your actions will set right what went wrong.

13. The young scion of a noble family--and one of a pair of star-crossed lovers--takes her own life, only to be rejected by death. But when she returns to life, she returns with company: the spirits of her departed ancestors who have vowed to ensure that she fulfills her destiny and makes her line proud...

15. Years ago, a famous but foolhardy Pathfinder opened an Osiriani tomb, whose engravings promised vengeance on any who disturbed the sleeping dead. When nothing immediately happened, he dismissed the curse. However, when he returned home from his long journey, he found his only child possessed by the spirits of departed Osiriani kings. Now grown, the child has managed, only barely, to control the spirits and turn them to her advantage, but for how long?

18. As one of the last scions of Sarkoris, you've started hearing and seeing strange voices and beings as you rise to adulthood, and prepare to join your Kellid clan in the constant struggle against the Worldwound. Are they your slain ancestors, crying out for vengeance against the demons? Are they your clan's old gods, clinging desperately to their last worshiper? Or are they something more deceitful and sinister?

19. Heir to a long line of weapon merchants, you find yourself haunted by the ghosts of those slain by your family's swords, and you are driven to appease their restless spirits. Sure, they aid you, but to what cryptic end?
(Loosely inspired by this real world example)

20.) You REALLY should not have opened that box.
21.) You are a reincarnation of a great orcish warchief. And the greatest harpist of all time. And a dread pirate king. And who knows how many others? The point is, many of the worlds great people have reincarnated into you. At the exact same time. It can be kind of confusing.

22) A paladin (in name only?) belonging to an ancient order dedicated to honoring the memory of the six lawful good saints who formed the initial group.
23) A priestess of Norgorber aiming to channel, and master, all four of her dark god's aspects and being his vessel of Golarion.
24) The child of a medium obsessed with the spirits' ability to claim control of their channeler but too scared to try it out for himself. Grooming his child with constant exposure to spiritual possession and thus not allowing them to form a personality of their own on the other hand...
25) A genealogist and the scion of an unusually extensive line of heroes and villains alike, channeling the esoteric skills of your ancestors in order to one day having a legend of your own.
