What the heck is fatal gore?

Rules Questions

It's listed as an ability for Walrus Animal Companions, and yet I cannot find anything about what the heck it means.

I believe it involved fatal walrus beachings due to loss of polar ice, which in turn is due to global warming. This in turn, (sigh) according to many American politicians of the Republican Party, is due to a spell of the illusion school, Gore's Inconvenient Truth.

Given that the spellcasting abilities of this archetype of the Politician class are limited to spells of the bull pucky school, knowledgeable sages disagree.

"Name's Gore. Fatal Gore."

I found this: Link about 3/4 of the way down the page:
"And the walrus's big special ability is Fatal Gore, giving them a base 19-20 threat range on their gore attacks, though the animal companion version doesn't get that ability till after the size increase at 7th class level."

EDIT: I looked up the Walrus

No mention of the Fatal Gore, so take d20 (I assume that's where you got your quote from) with a grain of salt as a precaution.

This website confirms what Dimminsy says:

They site Animal Archives. Normally a natural attack has a crit threat range of 20; that ability increases it to 19-20.

Remember, Animals Archives is not a part of the OGL, so d20pfsrd may not be able to use it.

I don't own that particular book (though I would love to since I'm using an AnC in PFS right now) bookrat, but it's 2 sites vs 1 in favor of Walrus' having Fatal Gore.

EDIT: That's true, but that hasn't exactly stopped them before from using material. Still, either way, I'm happy to conclude they do have Fatal Gore as a special ability. Very interesting choice of an AnC I do have to say, ShroudedInLight.

This thread is way less exciting than its title suggested. Although it's probably more useful than my imagination suggested.

Well done!

shadram, I'm sure Howie's social commentary at least brought some joy to your life!

The "fatal gore" ability was removed in the walrus' Bestiary 4 entry.

I'm currently combing the animal companion list for interesting choices since I plan to run a Hunter.

I found a lot of interesting abilities, and d20 doesn't always cite things. However, I found every ability on d20 with the exception of Fatal Gore.

Good to know, I wonder if I am going to use a Walrus or not. Currently doing that combing (specifically for a primal companion hunter) and the archetype really messes with the "established order" of what are good animal companions and which ones aren't.

Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for letting us know, Mangrum!

Sounds like it could be a fun archetype to roleplay. For the future I suggest using ArchivesOfNethys. It cites everything (that I've seen), has many/most of the adventure path items/things, indicates if something is PFS legal or not (double check with Additional Resources just to be sure), and is more likely to be up-to-date. When searching for something use "+" instead of a space between words. So Spirited+Charge as an example. Hope that helps!
