The staff is just too swamped with other things right now to consider Achievement revamps. Its not that we don't want to entertain ideas its just that we don't have time to even talk about them. Let's revisit this topic after a month or two.

Sure thing, I'll mark it on my calendar...

I'd be very interested in a clear answer to Erian's question, too, because I'm in the same position. I simply hate going around killing mobs for the sake of killing mobs: I can kill a score of goblins, not hundreds of them without a meaningful goal - and achievements are not a meaningful enough goal to me.
Ryan's answer worries me as it implies that as of now there is no actual plan to modify existing achievements or add more interesting ones - otherwise it would suffice to say so, no time wasted.

I share the concern, but am choosing to live on the Optimistic side for the next month at least.

I actually always find your topics and criticisms very intriguing; we think very similarly on a lot of issues. However, I wish you wouldn't come off so negatively - it's really not helping man. All of your good points get brushed aside and the only thing people focus on is your unsavory tone.

Surely in honor of your power we can come up with an appropriately deferential title. "Cricket King" perhaps, or "Oracle of Silence"?

You probably are a power angry PvPer who wants easy kills over noobs and a greedy capitalist who wants to gain a lot of money by selling old accounts. At last it seems that it is what I am for asking for no grind.

LOL, which is why I deleted it... as it wouldnt help

I was extremely positive about PFO for a long time.

He might be. But he communicates in such a way that people like to discuss things with him constructively. I share concerns about the grind and I'm glad that he is able to get discussion going on it without it being shut down by flamewars.

Whoops, I'm sorry about that!

Anyhow, I hope you capture that positivity again, we could use ideas like yours to help shape the game. Cheers~

Well, to be fair, he seems to get even less answers than I do.

Its all good, I still try to push the game to others and tell them that it has potential. I still help people in game when I can. I also work with everyone on TS to get us all the knowledge we can.

So there is still some positive attitude, it just doesnt show here... I honestly dont think my opinion matters unless I pucker up. Which is not what I do when it is something I am paying for... My money should be enough for my opinions to count.

Now, when I deal with Lisa, she gets my full respect. I believe she has earned it.

Hmm. Cricket King...I think I like that one!

As for my position, I'm like Saiph in that I often agree with Xeen (and Bludd, and folks that voice criticism) on various topics. I ardently support vibrant PvP, for instance, because I see it as the only way to get a real lasting challenge in this game despite the fact that I myself will likely be on the receiving end of attacks as a merchant and self-proclaimed non-aggressive PC.

I've been in this sort of thing (both gaming and software development) for too long to think that avoiding the bad stuff will result in a good outcome. However, I'm also a fairly patient fellow and as a Southerner it's not in my general nature to be aggressive or provocative in my communication. We're known for our politeness and hospitality after all. It's why the role I want to play in PFO is a Diplomat and Mediator above all else. I honestly believe there's almost always a better solution than conflict. This is actually what's driving me to be so interested in the Achievements going a route other than killing stuff.

I've also got a lot of respect for Ryan from his work on RPGs in general. I've noted before my opinion that his efforts on the OGL/OGC movement saved much of a hobby that's been dear to me for 30 years now. So, he's got some credit due on my part. I believe he's seeing the interest here, and that it spans a broad player base, so I'll give him a month to work on some thoughts. Then I'll be back to check in.

Now if I can just get some inside info on the best path for a would-be Aristocrat/Bard to take at EE as prep for when those roles come out...

I loved that southern politeness when I lived in Nashville.

Instead of saying something verbally mean, they would say... Bless your Heart, which was their way of calling someone stupid lol

Goblin Squad Member

I may be a northern I agree a lot with what Erian said. I have always found that challenging someone is not my best path for getting them to do what I want.

I also believe the following:

Do not forget Diella, you have free access to be taken out to learn the ropes of PVP any time.

Not really sure if this would fit in this thread, but here goes!

As someone who loves crafting (and will probably be dedicated to it), I really wish there were crafting animations. It feels so much more rewarding and immersive to be able to see yourself swinging a hammer on the anvil, etc.

I think the idea has always been that you are more of a shop foreman, directing a room full of NPC smiths, rather than being the sole guy swinging a hammer on your projects. That explains how you can start a job, or queue up several jobs, then go out adventuring while the hammering gets done in the background.

Under this concept, one benefit of the crafting room door interface was that GW didn't have to draw and animate all the NPC crafters. Eventually, they might have the resources to open the door and show you the team hard at work.

Another early idea was that you might start a job, then have to come back and make executive decisions if the workers on your project team ran into complications, like broken tools or secondary supply shortages.

With much of the crafting requiring hours to complete, I think that would be difficult to implement. Perhaps once the to-do list has been eroded a bit, they could get different backgrounds for each of the crafting facilities, though. Possibly a craft-appropriate workspace with the character performing the appropriate action if they had anything in the queue for that station.

Poking this at (a little over) the 1 Month mark. I suspect the 12.1 release has been occupying more brain-time than alternate Achievement types and the Aristocrat class, but I'd be remiss if I didn't maintain my efforts...

Goblin Squad Member

The Cricket King has returned, with time off for holidays, to check in on our alternate Achievement types and a status on the Aristocrat. Hopefully with the big launch today, focus can now shift a bit to this topic.

Thanks for any insight!
