Alpha 8 preliminary map.

There are closer "towns" than Thornkeep, but they will likely be used by people looking/ready for bad guys. Or completely naive players. :) What map are you referring to? Was it said how far Rotter's Hole is? Here Rotter's Hole is down by The Pit of No Return.
There's a thread on Alpha, if you prefer, under General Information/News and Announcements.

If "plenty of ways around" involve finding loopholes in the game mechanics to circumvent the clear intention of the system, then boo, you should feel ashamed.
What I have in mind is a little bit of both. What you call "shameful", some (like myself) call "emergent".
Nothing that I have in mind will require "breaking" and mechanics, just using them or combining various systems to produce what i want and what they might not have expected. Again, I call that "emergent".
If they had "clear intent", they would have programmed to account for that. I do not hold my character's actions to the "spirit of intent", Bluddwolf is a criminal and his actions should not be expected to be otherwise, unless of course he is paid handsomely.

The devs might even have a Pit of Doom pool going on the design whiteboard.

PVP truthfully in action, in an open world PVP mmo, is not in an arena where all participants are prepared for it and where there are no risks or rewards.
Arenas are for training skill combinations and recording things like DPS, etc. They are not the place for true PVP.
I think I might of found my new sig. This can't be stressed enough for people not familiar with open world pvp.

Yeah I can pretty much pick out Blackfeather Keep on the map. Honestly I hope whatever resource drops they have assigned to these hexes get re-randomized for the EE map. Otherwise we Nor-Easters get a HUGE advantage going into the start of the game.
Please remember also that PFO isn't intended to follow the example of any previous open world PVP MMO. In some particulars, it is, by design, going to break "established" paradigms.

Honestly, I am hoping for a little danger and a little competition. Things could get real stale, real fast without a certain level of risk.
Edit: One of the best things that they could do, IMO, is drop the plans for repair of gear and add durability as a factor in crafting. After they get some possible PVP implemented, that is.
I think having a settlement near Thornkeep will be a blessing... and a curse. It's a mixed bag.

These statements better for me? I am barely getting the understanding of the character mechanics as it is and i have not paid attention to anything revol ing around the Land Grab or having settlements.

In the Land Rush, the various companies competed to get claimed sites across the map. Those sites have been assigned. People who join EE will likely work from the NPC towns for a while, or join one of the winning groups from the Land Rush.
The current map for Alpha 8 is the top 1/3 of the map for Early Enrollment (EE), when the game starts. So in Alpha 8, anyone who belongs to a settlement that will be in that area of the map will be reconnoitering their eventual home.
There was at one point a plan to have EE start with the top 1/3 of the map, only. That would mean the people in settlements in the top 1/3 could harvest and bank either at or near their home, while people in the bottom 2/3 would not be able to do so.
And the reason this is important: Not every hex of the same terrain type provides the same resources. It's common knowledge that Highland hexes can be mined for copper, silver, or gold, but knowing which specific hill hexes near your town have which of those metals is a big advantage in bringing your production engine up to speed.
Does this game have the ability to untrain feats/skills etc... In case you feel you made a mistake in your choices for your role?
Eigengrau wrote: Does this game have the ability to untrain feats/skills etc... In case you feel you made a mistake in your choices for your role? There's no need to untrain anything. If you don't like what you trained, you can just wait a little while for more xp to build up, then train what you want. If it's early on in the character's career, you could delete it, but that's not really necessary, either.
There's definitely not an "xp refund"/"re-spec" system right now. I don't think they plan to add one, either.
