When will Paizo come to their senses with the commoner class?

The thing has two skill points per level, bad BaB and ZERO good saves. Right now the only thing saving the class for me is a homebrew fix that allows me to use dazzling display to utilize profession (turnip farmer) to farm all turnips in a 30 foot radius as a standard action.

I beg you paizo, include the commoner in pathfinder unchained. This class needs an update desperately.

Beat you to it.

I guess you haven’t heard about the Advanced Commoner Guide that’s coming out in May 2015. James Jacobs did a preview on the blog a while back. It is funny you mentioned turnips, because the Turnip Farmer prestige class is arguably one of the most hotly anticipated features of the new book. The hard part of qualifying for the class is that the character has to have five ranks in both Profession (Farmer) and Knowledge (Nature), and he has to have won at least three blue ribbons specifically for his turnips. I think he also has to have the Tuber Mastery feat, which drew quite a bit of controversy in early playtesting, so that may change before the final version. They may create a similar feat with a different name, though, to placate the purists, since (as we all know) turnips are technically tap roots, and not tubers.

In any event, I’m really looking forward to it myself. I’m sort of hoping they offer some type of alternate class feature so I can finally build that Rutabaga Farmer I’ve always wanted to play (Although I might want to branch out and have him be a multiclass Rutabaga Farmer/Fishmonger, even if that is a bit overpowered). The combo may sound a bit fishy, but the back story explains his roots. My friend is dying to get the details on their Chandler and Wheelwright prestige classes for his level 5 Expert—the hard part is going to be deciding which feat tree to follow so he can qualify for it. I don’t think it’ll hold a candle to my commoner, but I’m afraid he’s on a roll. He may even be stuck in a rut.

I’m afraid one of the guys in our group (who is a notorious powergamer) is going to want to play an Apothecary, because he always has to have the most powerful character in any group. It is like having the best character is a kind of drug for him. My wife wants to play a Cobbler (again). While the group does need some type of heeler, I'd like to see her choose a different platform and be less of a spectator. She always does like to provide comfort and support, though, so if the shoe fits. . . who knows? Since it doesn’t come out until May, there’s plenty of time to flip-flop (although she does have the feat for it).

Whatever, commoner is clearly OP. Perception as a class skill? Not even WIZARDS get that.

He should have taken levels in house.

All the better to see the dragon that's about the eat you.... or the party of heroes that's about to murderhobo you. :D

Unfortunately, the designers have posted that eating rutabegas is equivalent to eating sand, and turnips are supposed to be infinitely better, so the Rutabega Gardner archetype will basically be one big trap option -- which you'll of course take anyway because flavor text obviously cannot be altered and if you want to do nonstandard stuff, it only makes sense that you'll be unable to keep up with your peers when it comes to serious farming.

Meh. Someone with good system mastery can make a commoner who can farm turnips to an acceptable level, but they still fall behind druids by level 5 or so, and the druid can get a cow as an animal companion for free.

They may be weak, but at least they make better Rogues than the Rogue class.
