I AM A DWARF AND I'M TRYING TO BE A SKAAALLD!!!

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Just in case you don't get the reference, the title of this song IS a modified song lyric. It's a weirdly obscure reference, so I thought I'd let people know.
Anyway, I'm trying to build a Skald (as well as some other things, but that's besides the point), and I desperately want to be a dwarf, because it'd be thematic, but the stat layout is really bad for them, as they get a penalty to Charisma.
Does anyone know a way to help my Skald have balanced skills while still being a dwarf? Thanks!!!

Scarab Sages

With the thread title being in all caps I can only imagine it being read in the booming enthusiastic voice of Brian Blessed :).

Here, if you have a second, watch this. It's awesome and the inspiration I've had for a Skald ever since I knew the skald was going to exist.

Diggy Diggy Hole by the Yogscast

Seriously though, does anyone know of an early-level solution to their charisma penalty?

Beg or bribe the GM for a higher point buy?

Haha. Can't. I'm in PFS exclusively because I don't have friends who play this game.

I think you're just going to have to eat the Charisma penalty. No archetypes change the Skald's casting stat.

Sigh... I think you're right.

Well, Cha only effects spell I can cast and their DC. Since I only go up to level 6 and use mostly buffing spells (I think), I won't have to worry about it too much. Oh well.
Or, I'll just play Human. Ulfen's are cool, I suppose. And I can always turn on the Theme Song to Skyrim during my raging songs instead of Diggy Diggy Hole.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, sorry we couldn't come to a solution.

You could be a Human with Racial Heritage (Dwarf) and play yourself as a half-dwarf.

This is hilarious. I was just thinking the exact same thing. Racial Heritage is a Feat though, isn't it? Hmm... Maybe not. Perhaps I'll just have the Adopted racial trait and pick up a dwarf trait of some kind. Who knows?!

I think this is an acceptable point buy for a Dwarf Skald, post-racials: 16 STR/12 DEX/14 CON/8 INT/10 WIS/14 CHA

If you're playing Society then you're never getting past 4th level spells anyways, you don't need charisma any higher than that. Just avoid spells that require a save and you're good to go.

Hmm... I was at least going to go to 16 Cha, but that can be attained by level 8.

Thanks Arachnofiend!!!

P.S: For a second, I thought that Con was 8 and Int was 10. Lol.

As a dwarf in a class with a good Will save, it probably wouldn't hurt you to drop the Wis to 9 and keep your Int at 10. The Glory of Old trait and Steel Soul feat will really help your saves. Or you could start with a 13 Dex and 15 Con which could be your 4th and 8th level bumps.

Now I wanna play a dwarf skald too!

Edit: Doh, I just read you want a 16 Cha eventually. That could be bought with a headband :)

Liberty's Edge

Actually, if you drop your Wis to 9 and your Str 14, you can get a 16 CHA.
OR if you drop Wis to 9 and your Str to 15, then you can get a 15 Cha and a 10 Int.
I think I will be doing the second one. Good job everyone!!!

Yey everyone is happy.

Now make me a Goblin Paladin!

Ok.

Take goblin stat mods.

Apply them to normal paladin build instead of whatever race the build was using.

Tada!

Lol. This reminds me of the time I googled "How to Catch Siucune in Pokemon Soul Silver" and the top result was:

"Throw a pokeball at it."
