Concerro has the right of it. A sorcerer can choose pretty much any spell from this list provided it is okay with the GM and that he is capable of casting a spell of that level.
For example, a 6th-level sorcerer could choose any spell from that list of 3rd-level or lower to add to his spells known.
He cannot cast a spell that he has not chosen to know first.
Spell schools aren't nearly as important for sorcerers as they are for wizards, not unless you intend to take Spell Focus or other school specialization feats and abilities.
