It's the last week here in the office for my soon-to-be-former supervisor. I understand that he thinks moving on is what's best for him, but it throws some unwelcome complications into my life, so I can't wish him well.
At least I have a real reason for avoiding the farewell Happy Hour the boss has organized on his behalf. The boy is leaving for a camping trip on Friday, and I might have to pick him up early from school to make sure he can get to the departure on time.
Still, with the departure of my soon to be former supervisor, I've been considering departing myself. Or at least making sure I'm ready for the inevitable stab in the back.
I would almost think I'm being a bit paranoid, except for the experiences I've had.
With the stab wounds in my back as evidence.
I might have a little time, though.
Anyway, on a slightly positive note, I at least had a decent weekend. Good food and lots of time to read.
My former supervisor brought in donuts yesterday. So at least he did something decent before departing.
Drive in today was a little more crowded. Still not too bad. Now that I'm weaning off the medicine I was taking for my GI problems, I think I'll be able to make this earlier than usual more the norm.
At least, until I potentially find a new job. Currently, I'm debating whether I should start now, or wait until they hire another mechanical engineer.
If I start now, and find something else before they hire another ME, it could leave them in a lurch. I'd hate to do that, but my own career is more important than this company. I've learned my lesson.
On the other hand, if I wait they might have a chance to cut me loose before I can find something else. I'd rather not be in that position again.
Well, in the meantime, I've still got work to do.
At least I got to go to lunch with the wife, however.
My mom had to bring her chihuahua to the vet yesterday to be put down. She was very old, mostly blind, and had been in poor health for awhile.
She was a good dog, though.
Now I’m waiting for dinner. We ordered Outback.
At the boy’s Scout meeting last night, the church kicked us out the room we scheduled (nearly a year ago), in favor of some old ladies. So we had to have the meeting outdoors.
At least we were able to use their fancy new picnic area, complete with tables, benches, and a small stage.
1 person marked this as a favorite.

Still, I found the church folk behavior extraordinarily rude and unprofessional.
It’s pleasing to make the boy do more and more work and such around the house.
Gives me slightly more time to sit on my butt and read.
This morning is starting off a little less hectic, a little more on the quiet side.
Which is the way I like my mornings.
Come to think of it, it's also the way I like my evenings.
First email I saw this morning was from new supervisor asking me to get a project for IFB issuance.
Second email I saw was from former (but not quite gone) supervisor, saying he had a few minor comments on that same package.
Anyway, hopefully today will be an adequately pleasant day.
Even though it's forecast to be raining most of the day.
Thankfully, I won't have to deal with the rain too much.
The boy gets his cast off today! Huzzah?
That depends on whether it'll be fully healed or not.
And then he goes camping with his troop!
We had some horrific weather roll through last night. Woke me up it was storming so hard. It's all done now, though.
I had an easy, but foggy, drive in.
Even the intersection near the interstate, where the light was blinking red, wasn't too bad.
And today is my former supervisor's official last day! HUZZAH!
Although, in all honesty, he wasn't too bad. I just think he was a better engineer than he was a manager.
They're having a happy hour/going away party for him today after work. Unfortunately, I have to leave early to take the boy to get his cast off.
There' a dude who consistently gets to the office before me, and he turns on the coffee machines and fills them up with water. He was out for a week or three, so I was doing it in his place.
I finally knew he was back when I found the machines turned on earlier this week.
Anyway....time to make the donuts.
So......while I was at work yesterday one of our smoke detectors finally decided it had lived a long enough life. It started beeping every 30 seconds to let my wife know it was ready to go to smoke detector heaven. When I got home, I disconnected it and we did a little online shopping for a replacement. Since all our other smoke detectors were installed around the same time (about 10 years ago), we decided to buy the four pack of new detectors. That way we'd have backups.
What are the odds two more of these detectors would also start making the my-life-is-over noise in MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT (though not at the same time, of course)?!?
Pretty f%&king good, I'd say.
So, it's around 2 am and I'm getting the 16 foot ladder out of the garage, because the two that have gone bad are upstairs on the really high ceilings.
