Yet another example of how my supervisor wasn’t a very good manager.
Give me a manager in his late 50s on up any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. These youngsters are energetic, but flawed.
Damn! It’s 11 minutes after 7 and Jim still isn’t here. Makes me think he might be off again today. That’s sad.
Yesterday, my next door office neighbor popped her head over the cubicle to ask me a question. She then noticed the background on my computer screens - Caernarfon Castle in Whales. She asked how they keep the castle from sinking (the view in the picture is from the river).
I guess a PhD isn’t always all that.
Work from home Wednesday. Though to be honest, if I didn't have a doctor appointment this morning, I'd have probably just gone into the office.
But my appointment is in Tomball, which is kind of the opposite direction from work.
It's just a routine prescription renewal, but since it can sometimes take a really long time to get an appointment, I don't want to miss it.
I suppose I should get busy with work stuff.....
....after I get my second cup of coffee!!
YEEEEAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!!
I was hoping for a week of nothing but pleasant drives to work. Alas, it was not to be this morning.
There was dumbass young punk weaving in and out of everyone, practically rubbing bumpers with folk. Then to get past the dude next to me, who apparently wasn't going fast enough for him, he veered into the center passing lane.
All so he could about a dozen yards ahead of our little group.
Even at my worst, I was never that childish.
After that dumbass turned off, the ride was much more enjoyable.
At least the radio was playing some good music.
And now I'm here.
At work.
I'm really going to miss being this early when the kids start back to school next week.
Not sure if my former supervisor (now short timer before leaving us) is going to be back in the office today. My new and improved supervisor said he might be.
It does look like next week will be his last week of work, since the boss man set a happy hour/farewell for next Friday.
He sent the invite through email and put it on the calendar. So I responded as "tentative. Mostly just to f$@k with people. Also because if it actually starts at the time he officially put it for, I'm typically home by then.
I often wonder if they think I get here early as some form of scam.
In all honesty, I do it because (a) I've been an early riser since the 5th grade, and (b) I love minimizing the traffic I have to deal with.
I forgot my bread this morning, so I couldn't make toast for breakfast when I got to the office.
However, since the snack lady has been out of the office this week, I've been bringing more than the usual number of snacks.
So....saltine crackers for breakfast it is!
And my drive in was quite pleasant this morning. No lunatics.
Other than myself, of course.
Ugh! New supervisor came over to me yesterday kind of panicking about one of the project we're currently trying to get out the door. Seems a vendor drawing doesn't quite match the model we have.
Given we haven't touched this project in several months (scheduling delays), I couldn't recall the specifics. So he set a meeting for today to talk about it.
However, after he went away, I got with my drafters and discussed the issue. Now I'm somewhat sure the vendor item in question is refurbished from another project, and I'm also (not quite as) somewhat sure the thing never had a skid.
Too bad the previous engineering supervisor isn't around to help answer these questions, since that's the kind of thing he was supposed to keep track of.
Oh, wait.....
He IS around. Just on vacation and only choosing to answer some queries.
Anyway, enough about that. Now I just have to decide what I'm going to do for lunch later today.
Work here is done. I'm needed elsewhere now. I'm needed wherever outlaws rule the West, wherever innocent women and children are afraid to walk the streets, wherever a man cannot live in simple dignity, wherever a people cry out for justice.
Happy Saturday?!?
Maybe a little happy, at least.
It’s too rainy and gloomy to be completely happy. Unless you’re into that sort of thing.
My second cup of coffee is almost ready, though. Which means it’s nearly time for some map work.
First I’ve got to let the computer wake up.
Reminds me of a line from one of Frank Herbert’s less well known books. I think it was The Jesus Incident……
“Okay, Ship. I’m awake.”
“So you assume.”
That might not be the exact quote, but it’s the gist of it.
Computer is sufficiently woken up. Time for mapping!!!
Yesterday ended up being mostly decent. For me anyway. The boy wasn’t feeling good. His temp even climbed a little. After some doses of cough medicine and allergy medicine, it’s normal again, and he’s feeling much better.
And since this morning was starting off pretty decent as well, I decided to be Best Dad Ever and go get donuts.
Now I’ve got some chicken breasts marinating for dinner. I’ll pop them on the grill later this evening.
The rest of the day will be filled with doing laundry, maybe some mapping, and definitely some comic book back issue reading.
At some point I’ve also got to call my mother. I tried doing that yesterday, but she was visiting a casino, probably with my aunt.
My nephew is graduating from high school this year, and I’ve got to talk with my brother to see about getting our mother here so she can see it.
I doubt she’d want to fly, so it might take one of us driving to Louisiana to get her. It’d be worth it, since we could probably get her to stay a few weeks.
And since this would be probably closer to June, I could maybe then get the wife and kids to drive her back. That way, they could visit with my in-laws for a week.
Well, at least my drive in this morning was pretty decent. Except for a few a-holes who insisted on trying to get in my way.
Otherwise, it's probably going to be a pretty crappy week.
