And the weather has responded in kind by being gloomy.
In my defense, the Video Game Which Must Not Be Named is really fun.
My Trailblazer was totaled one year ago yesterday. I still miss it, even though I love my newer vehicle.
Ugh. Monday May be Monday, but Tuesday is nearly always crappy traffic day. It’s like all the people who prefer to drive like a 90-something year old grandmother decide to leave the house around the same time I do.
It’s work from home Wednesday. The sun is shining. I stayed up too late last night playing The Video Game Which Must Not Be Named. And later today I have an appointment with my dentist to finally get my mouth guard either adjusted or receive confirmation it must be replaced.
Ugh. I want this week to be over already.
So…..it looks like the bosses got us Christmas gifts.
One is an insulated drinking cup with the company logo. That’s pretty cool. Although I’ve really got enough of that kind of thing. Looks like it might hold about 12 ounces. The opening to drink out of doesn’t seal, though. So I wouldn’t want to be driving with it.
The other gift seems to be……a stand for the cell phone?!? Wtf?!?!? That’s f@&$ing lame. When would I ever find something like that to be useful? Seriously lame. I’m tempted to throw it in the trash.
Turns out what I thought was just a stand is actually a cordless phone charger. THAT is dead useful. Now I won’t have to worry about forgetting my charging cord at home anymore.
Today is my daughter’s birthday. It’s hard to believe she’s 10 years old.
Doctor appointment with a new GI specialist today. I don’t have much hope he’ll be any good.
Seems I’m nearly finished The Video Game Which Must Not Be Named. Maybe another night or three. That’s the main quest line anyway. I think you can keep going with side quests afterwards. We’ll see.
I can see why this game made over a billion dollars though.
Not surprisingly, I think it sold better than the so called “game of the year”.
Work from home Wednesday has already been super busy. And not just for work stuff.
On the plus side, I pretty much finished the main quest on The Video Game Which Must Not Be Named. All that’s left is to prepare for the end of 5th year exams (named after a certain nocturnal bird of prey).
There’s also a bunch of side quests and exploration still to do. I went through some of that last night. Not sure how much more I’ll do.

Okay, I can't stand it any longer. What is this "Video Game Which Must Not Be Named"? Gimme a hint, at least. Or a link. :-)
Hint - it involves witches/wizards, and it’s primary setting is a school.

So not Baldur's Gate 3 then. :-)

I bought bg3 not knowing that I was getting the early access version, but I started playing it anyway. At the time my 2017 iMac met the requirements. Then the full version came out and suddenly bg3 was a pig. Checked the requirements and the iMac is no longer good enough. So I bought an M2 Mac mini, which I hope to get set up this weekend. In the meantime I’m playing bg1 enhanced.
I've been playing the Harry Potter game, it is a lot more fun than I was expecting, given the source material (I've never been a fan of Harry Potter).
They just ported Buldurs Gate 3 to the Xbox X so I hope to start playing that this winter.
It’s Work From Home Friday Morning! Only because I have to go get lab work done for my GI doctor. Then it’s back to the office.
Have I mentioned how much I dislike fasting for lab work?
In better news - Amazon seems to have dropped episodes of Reacher Season 2 a day early. Last article I read said it would drop today, but it was available last night. So the wife and I watched the first two episodes.
A glorious (Houston) Texas winter day, where it’s currently a lovely 66 degreesF, with a predicted high of 69.
Sadly, I’m back in the office now.
Well, after beating the main antagonist in The Video Game Which Must Not Be Named, I played another day or two just finishing up some side quests and exploring. Last night I moved ahead with the final two quests: reviewing the school year with the deputy headmistress, then a combo fifth year tests/end of term feast.
The gam lets you keep on exploring apparently, but I don’t really feel like it. The few side quests I know about are ones I had no desire to finish. And exploring is tiring. So I think I’m done with it for now.
Might take the boy to see Godzilla Minus One today. I’ve been adverse to going to theaters for movies that are too long, but everything I’ve heard about this movie says it’s awesome.
And the boy really wants to go see it.

Since it’s the 20th anniversary of Return of the King, I thought I’d start on the (greatest) trilogy (of all time) again. Watching Fellowship of the Ring at the moment.

I saw it this week. 100% recommend.

And the boy really wants to go see it. I saw it this week. 100% recommend. Yeah, we ended up seeing it yesterday morning. I thought it was awesome. Now I’m recommending it to all my co-workers. Except the ones I know don’t like reading subtitles.
And now it’s Monday. Again.
Suffering through a bit of belly pain this morning. More than what’s become usual, anyway.
And at some point I’ve got to call an electrician. The outside outlets, as well as the ones in my garage, stopped working this weekend.

Huzzah!
Being the old man that I am, I completely forgot to check the GFCI outlets in the circuit that had gone out. One small button push later and no need to call an electrician!
Stoopid old man brain.
Speaking of Stoopid Old Man Brain…..
As I’ve gotten older and experienced more of just how horrible pretty much all human beings are (to one degree or another), my ability to maintain a positive attitude has diminished to practically nil. The often times uncaring or even vindictive-seeming nature of the Universe doesn’t help either.
Which means that it’s more difficult for me to even enjoy holidays anymore. At best they merely give me a slightly easier way to temporarily distract myself from the generally crappy nature of life.
“Cynical” has become too mild a word to describe me.
One work day to get through, then I’m (hopefully only) off until next Wednesday. Which, in theory, means I won’t have to be back in the office until next Thursday. Since Wednesday is usually work from home day.
Happy Holidays to me! No work (in theory, anyway) until next Wednesday. Granted, that meant me staying a little late at the office yesterday, just to make sure one particular set of drawings was correctly redlined. Still, it’s nice to know I don’t have much to do over the next few days, unless I want to.
Even better, on the way out the door from work yesterday, I got a call from the office of my new GI doctor. One of my tests came back positive for a certain type of bacteria in my gut, so he called me in a prescription.
One visit and a few simple tests, and this new doctor is already helping. Huzzah!
With any luck, this will mean I’ll soon recover from my long illness (going back to mid-January) and start putting on weight again. The be lost about 35 pounds since this started. Those who used to be part of the Paizo community and actually met me in real life will understand how bad that is.
Imagine a nearly year long stomachache, and looking like you might have escaped from a gulag, and you’ll start to get the picture.
Well, I see someone was smoking crack again.
In other news, my wife theoretically took vacation all this last week. So while I was working, she was supposed to work on the remaining gifts for the children.
Needless to say, that didn’t happen.
So now I spent part of yesterday scrambling to figure out what other gifts we can get them. Managed to find a Barnes & Noble that has copies of these Avatar The Last Airbender graphic novel type omnibuses, so at least we have more gifts for my daughter. I’ll probably try to hit a few other places. Just to be sure.
And I’ve got to clean the house between today and tomorrow.
And I’ve got to do grocery shopping. My GI system still isn’t up to snuff (I’ve only taken three doses of my new medicine), so my stomach probably won’t be up to much, but I had an idea for something mild(ish) that at least the wife and I can eat.
If I’m lucky, maybe I could even get my daughter to try some. She’s somewhat adventurous when it comes to food.
The boy is pretty much a lost cause when it comes to food. He’s super picky and refuses to try new things. It’s kind of pathetic, really. But I blame myself mostly. I should have been a bit more ruthless when he was younger.
Speaking of the boy…..
The dumbass created a list of Switch games he wanted. However, instead of writing it down and giving it to us, he kept it on the Switch.
Sometimes, I think that boy doesn’t have the brains God gave a gazelle.
Happy Christmas Eve to all!
Got a lot done yesterday. Last minute gift shopping. Grocery shopping (damn that bill was high). Cleaned the stove and microwave. Reorganized and somewhat cleaned the front room. Vacuumed the stairs. Got the kidlets to clean upstairs, including the boy running the vacuum without even asking (I was amazed he thought of it). Got the wife to actually clean something (dinner table).
And I’ve got more cleaning to do today. Most of downstairs needs dusting, vacuuming, wiping down, mopping, etc….
