Pathfinder / Golarion Campaign: Where to start?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hello community,
I thoroughly enjoy the Pathfinder rule set. I'm in two games right now: my homebrew game and my friend's homebrew game.

I know next to nothing about Golarion.

Where is the best place to start?? I see in the products there are a bunch of "____" of Golarion source books, but I don't see anything that resembles the classic "campaign setting" "boxed set" that I've been used to in Ad&D. I know in 3.0/3.5 the campaign settings tended to be a PHB-sized hardbound sourcebook.

Is there are a similar product for Golarion? Something with maps, basic info on cities, politics, races, powers-that-be, etc?

I appreciate any help in directing me.

The book you're looking for is the Inner Sea World Guide. That's the general gazetteer-like book for the setting.

Inner Sea World Guide, and Inner Sea Bestiary if you want the extra monsters.

thanks you two.

Liberty's Edge

For something slimmer I recommend the Inner Sea Primer.

Once you have a feel for the setting, which is kind of a kitchen sink setting, you can focus on whatever land or area that interests you the most and focus on that material.

Varisia seems to have the most detailed setting but in such a manner to have great flexibility for the person running the game.

Silver Crusade

I'll recommend the Inner Sea World Guide. I know it's already been said multiple times, but it's worth repeating. That's THE book.

Liberty's Edge

Inner Sea World Guide is excellent, but it can be a little intimidating. When I first started playing Pathfinder, but before I knew anything about Golarion, I picked it up and paged through it. It opened with a whole bunch of pages on the races of Golarion... and they were all human. Nowadays, I love the fact that there are lots of ethnicities and they all have their own typical cultural quirks. But when I was first looking at Golarion, it felt overwhelming, and I backed away slowly.

The Inner Sea Primer, is a much more digestable introduction. Read it, get a taste for how the setting has everything a fantasy gamer would want somewhere, learn to love it, and then you'll eat up all the ethnicities and longer descriptions of all the countries in the ISWG.
