The Leng Device location

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Continuing my list of questions from the Spires of Xin-Shalast: Can the Leng Device location be closed if there are still markers on it?

My guess is yes, since that seems like the natural reading, but I sort of wish it was no, because that would be fun (in a self punishing/death wish kind of way. You know, the same way I'm still kind of bummed that I never encountered the Sandpoint Devil.)

Also, will Ultra Pro be releasing official PACG markers? (Ok, that one is a joke, but if this kind of mechanic becomes a regular occurrence, I'm going to have to pick up something nice looking for this.)

Depths of my love for PACG:
I'll just admit now that if Ultra Pro did make an official set of PACG markers, I'd buy them. Whether they were markers for writing, or markers for counting, or both.

Yes—you're being challenged to shut off the Leng Device before The Thing From Beyond Time breaks through.

Thanks Vic. I thought so, but having never owned a Leng Device, I wasn't sure.

Mine keeps opening and closing at random, and in non-Euclidean ways. Really annoying.

I do have one question. Since the wording of the location means that The Thing From Beyond Time (which is definitely not Cthulhu) only comes out when the counters are gone aka once, if Meri evades it, it is gone forever, right, since it is a summoned monster?

It doesn't have unevadeable on it which I think is an oversight. It has Mental protection so no one else can evade it, but Meri doesn't have that requirement for her power. Maybe Meri spent time in Arkham, Mass from 1915-1925?

I used the new spell that let's it be evaded if undefeated (can't remember the name at the moment) so I dint have to discard blessings

Yeah, you're right Sign of Wrath would let you evade it. Now I'm really thinking it should have unevadeable on it. I mean you're really not supposed to let crazy not-exactly Cthulhu roam free in this world while still being heroes.

Now I'm waiting for Mike to come on here and go "We're adding this text to that Villain card: If you evade it, you must immediately play a game of Arkham Horror or Eldritch Horror and win the game or you lose the scenario." :p

No, I want you to finish the game in one night.

The Thing from Beyond Time is Lovecraftian, but it really isn't Cthulhu. It's a unique hound of Tindalos—a mere CR 16 in the Pathfinder RPG, about the same challenge rating as an ancient black dragon. Cthulhu is CR 30. (For comparison, Karzoug is CR 21.)
