Just wondering...about something....

Question about event in Crown of Fangs:

Umm...as a GM what would you do if the a certain PC sorcerer disintegrated the False Illeosa in the castle? It says when she hits 0 hp she turns to a puddle of blood basically, but if disintegrated she turns to dust, the whole blood thing is a tip off the pcs just met a fake sure, but if she just got dusted, there isn't any real hints it seems to tell the pcs they got a fake and the day isn't saved.

I can see it both ways. But the new disintegrate does HP damage, and says that if the target goes below 0 hp, they turn to dust.

So... perhaps the puddle of blood happens for a quick second before turning into red dust and blows away with an imaginary wind. You can still get the blood pool in there before the dusting. I have a funny feeling that it will make the PC's curious and start investigating. You never know what the PCs will do. But it would be a different description of the false illeosa demise than what they were expecting from a disintegrate spell. Could be fun!

Or you could just introduce a second blood clone somewhere quickly ...

Leave some clues like spell components, arcane tomes that indicate Ileosa had created simulacrums. A NPC they rescue from the castle having seen two Ileosas at the same time, the ghost in the dungeon etc.

And truthfully I'm sure the players will deduce it on their own once they take her down quite easily and the fact that they're still playing.

My way:

I'd have her erupt into a fountain of blood and pool on the floor. The blood would then quickly dehydrate and turn to dust.

Another clue might come from this: "A disintegrated creature's equipment is unaffected."
