So I recently stumbled across a really cool picture of a guy wearing a mask, basic right? But it got me thinking of how cool it would be to play a costumed hero in a game. How would you go about it?
I think that pretty much every class can play the role of masked superhero but how would you go about making a character that was Clark Kent/ Superman.
The character needs two distinct personalities/character's, possibly even different alignments. I am undecided as to whether or not the group should know about the character being both people. He should probably have max ranks in some profession, disguise, and bluff.

Well, the obvious ways are being a Kitsune, possibly with the Realistic Likeness Feat, or a Synthesist Summoner (you even get superpowers when transformed! Beware GMs reactions to cheesiness, though). Or both, for hilarity.
But more seriously, anyone with maxed Disguise can do this, especially with the (quite cheap) Sleeves of Many Garments or Hat of Disguise. Or both.

Easy answer: Synthesist Summoner or an Aegis.
Harder answers:
Many Oracles get (possibly skintight) armored magical suits which they can conjure up at a moments notice. They have good charisma which helps with the disguise & bluff end of things.
Edit - the Legalistic curse would explain a lot ...
A Witch can use the Disguise hex for a lasting alter-ego. A strength patron might help with the being a hero part.
An ordinary Summoner might have a heroic eidolon and use Transposition to swap places with it.

Do you think that this kind of concept would work out best in a game where all PCs were some sort of masked (optional) hero and there was a gentleman's agreement not to inquire about each other's identity? If this was just plopped into any random game, would it be a strain on PC trust and teamwork?
I was thinking of bringing this idea into my Eberron game as a Daelkyr Half-blood and give him a symbiote mask that provides constant non-detection and increases the DC to learn any information about him by 20.

It depends on how you play it and on how many people want to be Batman. The JLA work well together, but Batman knows everyone Secret Identity and had plans in place to take every one of them out if they go bad.
While this works in the comics, it's a sure way to kick off a PvP fest if done in game.

We need some guidelines. What does a superhero need to be able to do? Do you just want a hero with a secret identity? Does he beat up villains and criminals instead of killing them? Then unarmed strikes are important. However, there are also many superheroes with weapons, supernatural powers, and magic.

IIn terms of what the superhero does, that doesn't matter. Any class abover level 6 or so would pretty much qualify as "super". The bigger thing is how to play 2 identities and maybe even 2 alignments. How this works in a group.
Answering ciaran, with the second identity I would say that it would handle almost all mundane non combat rolls. Gathering information, Clark Lent/ deplomacy, Clark Kent/ flirting with a sexy tiefling, Clark Kent. Killing the terraqsue, superman.

seconding Synth. Summoner, Aegis or alchemist. If using 3.5 there was a shadow plane tied prestige class that added its level to some skills and attacks so long as opponents dont know your true name. Also, phsyco-active skins; sort of a Venom symbiote as an item. They existed in 3.5 and DSP might have updated them in their more recent psionics works. Tengu with a long nosed form? I always wanted to do racial heritage tengu and long nosed form to be a vigilante guardsman but it turns out its against RAW/RAI :(
For a more medieval feeling just go with full face helmet and pitch your voice? Especially if you start messing around with heraldry and knowledge nobility.
once you find your trope the rest seems mechnically easier, have a hgiher int than you let on or otherwise pump skill points (ie a 4+int per level with human and maybe FCB can have 6-7 points per level to maintain different sets of skills for each personality)

Paizo has a book called Heroes Wear Masks. I'm not sure if it can be downloaded or not. I tried to buy it (9.99?) but the purchase didn't work for some reason. From what I gathered, it was directly based on the Pathfinder system and you needed the Core Rule Book.
