Healing a broken mind

Kingmaker

I'm currently playing through Kingmaker, so I'd appreciate low spoiler responses, but I need some advice.

My party have just defeated the Stag Lord and his father. We recognised that the father was essentially a victim and used non-lethal damage to knock him out. We're now stuck with a crazy level 6 druid who we've left in the care of a temple for the meanwhile. He's none too happy with our Fighter for killing his son either. As the party are entirely neutral and good we didn't want to kill him, and my character is a fellow Druid and argued for keeping him alive.

We've got quite a bit of cash for clearing out the Stag Lord's stronghold, and I was wondering if people thought that paying for a higher-level cleric to cast Heal would be worthwhile? Could this spell help to restore his sanity, or is it a waste of time? If not, I'd appreciate any better suggestions.

You might want to talk to your GM about this. Some of the supplements have systems that enhance the RP aspect of building relationships and redeeming people.

As penny wit says the only person that can answer that is your GM. kudos for thinking outside the box and not just leaving a trail of dead bodies everywhere:)

however my guess is he's pretty set in his evil ways and building up your kingdom might be better use of your funds, and it would help more "good" people then

some abusive jerk that had the tables reversed on himself

Thanks guys. I guess it'll be a matter of talking it through with both the GM and the rest of the party.

Our GM was a bit surprised when we captured him alive. Would I be right in assuming the module expects you to kill the guy?

Silver Crusade

Yup as it was mentioned up thread talking with the GM is a good idea. And yes going forward it is assumed that you have killed the old man. However he could make for an interesting re accruing thorn in the party's side :) . you know what they say about good deeds and all that! But good job for not leaving a string of bodies in your wake! One thing to consider, as part of your party's mandate from the sword lords you are supposed to put an end to banditry by the sword if necessary. When I played the chavalier in our party took that to mean we were the closest thing to the law in those parts.

The party I was GMing killed him in one round. The cleric happened to notice him directly above her, so she cast soundburst as soon as she could. He dropped to the floor, prone. She managed the reflex save to dodge, then he was beaten to death by the whole party. He never even got off a summon.

My party is currently debating doing the same for Auchs, now that the healer can reliably cast heal as needed. The main thing stopping them is they don't know if he's violent because of his mental handicaps, or if his mental handicaps are the only thing keeping him a petty cruel thug and if given more intellect to back it up he might become something worse.
