Oradin: only Paladin / Oracle or could Holy Vindicator PrC be added?

Advice

I wanted to try to join a campaign here on these forums, and while I was searching for some feats/traits for my Oradin build I found the Holy Vindicator PrC.
Now, I know that PrC are usually a little weak in PF, but the Holy Vindicator flavor really made me think twice about that. Seeing as I want to play a self-sacrificing kyton-spawn oradin of Vildeis(the empyreal lord of Martyrdom, if you aren't familiar with her)the whole idea of stigmata overloaded my flavorometer.
The AP is Wrath of the Righteous, so it's full mythic levels and I think it goes up to level 20, too.

TLDR;Does Holy Vindicator gimp the Oradin too much, or I can use it? If yes, how could I build it?

elderitch Hiererage chain and the marty blood line

Hmm, the martyred bloodline is cute, but crunch wise it doesn't help much. With Holy Vindicator I could keep upping the Channel Energy dice and gain some spellcasting capabilities, too, while keeping full BAB. The abilities from the Martyred bloodline feel a little weak, beside the facts that they require 3 feats.
And beside, my character is a martyr, not one of his ancestors :P

Also, I'm now considering if it would be better not to take all 10 levels of Vindicator, but only some (maybe until 4 to get empowered self healing)?
Could I find some way to take advantage of the shield and critting abilities of the Vindicator, too?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The great strength of the Oradin is the ability to repeatedly self-heal as a swift action. Taking levels from Holy Vindicator means your Lay on Hands isn't gaining d6s or more uses. I also don't think that Faith Healing affects the Lay on Hands ability as it specifically says "cure wounds spells" - cure light/med wounds etc.

Honestly, I reckon Fey Foundling and Greater Mercy are about enough to ensure you heal a respectable amount.

You're probably right. Upon a second read, I've seen that I have to go trough a little too much hops to make Vindicator work: Iget Stigmata BUT they're good only if I heavily invest in Vindicator, I get more spells BUT I get less lay on hands, I get Vindicator Shield BUT I have to invest feats to make it work, I get on crit effects BUT I have to use feats to gain proficiency in a one-handed high crit weapon like the falcata...
maybe it's really too much work for too little gain.

By the way, staying the normal Paladin/Oracle build, what good traits could I take? I have 2, and one is Suicidal for Character reason, but the other? I thought about Magical Knack for Oracle to get some more spells...

As an Oradin you're probably only going to go to Oracle 4 or so in order to pick up enough life links for the party. You'll only gain access to level 2 spells at this point so trying to maximise the number of them isn't a huge priority. Over the full range of levels you'll actually be a higher-level caster as a Paladin.

Given how strong Paladin saves are you can probably forgo any save-increasing traits. It might be worth seeing if your GM will allow a trait to make Perception a class skill. Failing that Reactionary is never, ever a bad choice.
