Wanted to start outlining a new campaign as a means to try out Realm Works, but I am very much in the mood to incorporate sandbox elements that would allow players to world build and put some roots down...build a powerbase etc. That said, are there any campaign hooks integral to or opportunities that would allow for that sort of thing in this AP?
Just wanted to get some input. I fully expect to do extra work with this sort of take on a campaign and wouldn't expect too many details in this respect fom a campaign that seemingly has so many other aspects to focus on and didn't want to invest in the AP if I my get more fun out of playing through it some day, as opposed to owning it and never running it.
I'm planning on utilizing the Kingdom building rules starting at book 3 Demon's heresy. The adventure is loosely sandboxy and has hex exploration already written into it. After using the mass combat rules for part 2 I think it would be fun and take it one step further and use the full Kingdom building rules. Besides I have been dying to try out the expanded rules in Ultimate rulership and ultimate battle from Legendary games (just waiting for Ultimate war sigh!).
I'm planning on having Mendev and Queen Galifrey sponsoring the fledling Kingdom in the beginning and letting them get more self sustained after a while when they have built up their resources a bit. I will use Drezen as the Capital and replace the downtime stuff with the Kingdom building stuff (my players loved the Kingdom stuff when we played Kingmaker). Unless one of my players really want to Irabeth will probably become the ruler, leaving the pc's in other rulership positions. I will be using the hex map in Demon's heresy as their Kingdom map and assign various landmarks and features to the map.
