Songcraft and spreading a song.

Advice

Scarab Sages

So we're two games into Kingmaker and our party bard has been penning songs about the encounters they've had so far. They've used songs to pretty good effect aside from their own as well (spotted a bandits leg poking from a tree and asked "can I roll to see if I know any comedies about inept ambushes to let them know we're aware of them".)

He wants to use songs to spread political messages. So far he's writing a song about Oleg and Svetta being abandoned to bandit predations by Brevoy, the bravery of pioneers etc. He intends to be making propaganda for the kingdom when they found it (I'll probably allow a bonus to the Promotion Edicts).

What I would like are suggestions on rules for writing songs, what DCs would be appropriate for making a truly great song and mechanics for them spreading around the region. I don't think I've seen anything about this anywhere.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Maybe look at the rumormonger rogue talent for a base from which to draw up something, substituting Perform and/or Diplomacy checks and adjusting for the general populace's receptiveness toward the message (roughly represented by NPC attitude). That would be my first shot at the problem, at any rate.

I'd use the Perform check to see how well you "seed" an audience and Diplomacy (modified by Perform success margin) to see how well it spreads.

That I can work with. Thank you.
