Not surprisingly Lt. Russ, Lt. Tensor and Lt. Elaine are all psionically gifted.

Silly Commonwealth.

That's what happens when Corrosive Rabbit, Peebo & I get killed.

:P

Have you seeeen the gun show?

Mission 36: Operation Morbid Shroud

Time to Extract UReaver from his latest covert op against EXALT.

Col. Treppa 1/48 Kills
Sgt. DudeM - 2/9 Kills - Gravely Wounded 6 Days
Sgt. RobotChris - 3/1 Kills - Promoted to Lieutenant
Maj. Shadowyfox - 1/14 Kills - Wounded 6 Days
Maj. Ithuriel - 2/21 Kills - Wounded 6 Days
Lt. Russ - 4/4 Kills - Gained Rank: Psi Specialist
Cpl. UReaver - 1/1 Kills - Promoted to Sergeant

This has got to be one of my least favorite maps. We basically have to run around in a train yard while bad guys drop from the sky on top of trains and take shots at us.

We had several fairly serious wounds by fortunately no casualties.

Mission 37: Operation Twisted Line

UFO abductions in Canada, major hostiles expected, bringing in the big guns.

Lt. Tensor - 1/1 Kills
Lt. Russ - 2/6 Kills - Gained Rank: Psi Operative - Wounded 3 Days
Col. Treppa - 1/49 Kills
Col. David - 1/62 Kills - KIA
Col. Pygon - 3/29 Kills - Wounded 5 Days
Col. Matt - 2/50 Kills

It's a good thing we brought the big guns because these aliens weren't messing around. While Mindcontrolled, Pygon took out David with an alien plasma grenade.

Canada did give us Cpt. BNW (Assault) in thanks for our heroic efforts though.

RIP Col. David (Heavy) - 25 Missions - 63 Kills

Please leave your respects below.

Matt got in the zone and went a little crazy taking down EXALT members before the psionicly gifted ones got a hold of a spare medic and used up all his supplies before cutting him loose.

Yay, back on track.
RIP Col. David, may his sacrifice help the success of the mission.

Tensor with psi powers? It boggles the mind. Probably literally.

I know, only 2 kills...so far.

I expect they'll be some scanners head exploding.

Your logs inspired me to fire up the game myself over the weekend, Rob. I'd beaten Enemy Unknown last year but never went through Enemy Within or any of the DLC, so it's almost a whole new game to me.

I worked as a security guard for my college 10 years back, and I've gotten a tremendous kick out of turning all the XCOM soldiers into my old co-workers. =P

I'm having a considerable amount of fun with it, so thanks again for the inspiration. =)

Sounds like a good, but brutal, play through.

Using Mind Fray on Sectoids and Thin Men does that pretty well.

Coming up next...

We have finally located EXALT HQ in India and we'll be sending our best soldiers in to take them out.

Mission has been delayed due to being busy IRL. Hopefully I'll get to it later this week.

Mission 39: Operation Black Strangler

Exalt Base Raid

Lt. Tensor - 3/5 Kills - Wounded 2 Days
Cpt. Russ - 3/12 Kills
Col. Treppa - 0/49 Kills
Col. Matt - 1/56 Kills
Maj. Ithuriel - 3/25 Kills - Wounded 2 Days
Cpl. Selpher - 4/10 Kills - Promoted to Sergeant

EXALT never knew what hit them. Everytime we spotted movement we filled their lair with explosives. Maj. Ithuriel and Lt. Tensor suffered minor wounds cleaning up, but overall...

Great success!

Now we never have to deal with those buggers causing panic, or stealing our research or funding again. Can you believe it they even had their own counterfeit hologlobe.

That'll look nice in the Rec Room, next to the Hyperwave Relay.

Mission 40: Operation Demon Vengeance

A UFO of unknown size has landed in North America, time to go deal with it while we wait for the Hyperwave Relay to spin up.

Lt. Tensor - 1/6 Kills - Gained Rank: Psi Operative - Promoted to Captain
Cpt. Russ - 3/15 Kills - Promoted to Major
Cpt. BNW - 4/4 Kills
Col. matt - 4/60 Kills
Maj. Ithuriel - 3/28 Kills - Wounded 8 Days
Maj. Shadowyfox 2/10 Kills - Promoted to Colonel

Elite Mutons. Instead of normal plasma rifles these guys have heavy plasma weapons, better aim, almost twice as many hitpoints and reflexes that make it hard to land anything on them.

Additionally we encountered a Sectopod for the first time. These metal monstrosities can take a truly massive amount of punishment

Mission 41: Operation Forgotten Empire

Another terror mission in Japan, considering the firepower we've been seeing recently, we better send in the best.

Cpt. Tensor - 0/6 Kills - Gravely Wounded 8 Days
Maj. Russ - 1/16 Kills
Cpt. BNW - 3/7 Kills
Col. matt - 4/64 Kills - KIA
Col. Shadowyfox - 2/22 Kills - Wounded 6 Days
Col. Treppa - 0/49 Kills - Wounded 2 Days

We were seriously pinned down by a sectopod, allowing a heavy floater to fly over the building and flank us, taking out Col. Matt. We did managed to mind control and then eventually stun and capture the offending heavy floater though. I'm sure the interrogation will be thorough.

I encountered the Sectopod Overwatch bug, that allows them unlimited overwatch, effectively preventing my whole squad from moving.

Mission 42: Operation Demon Dream

Alright we've finally got the Hyperwave Relay up and going, and have the new Firestorms so that we can take down the enemies best ships.

Time to splash one and see what we can recover.

Maj. Ithuriel - 1/29 Kills - Promoted to Colonel - Gravely Wounded 4 Days
Maj. Russ - 2/18 Kills - Gravely Wounded 8 Days
Cpt. BNW - 3/10 Kills - Promoted to Major
Col. Shadowyfox - 0/22 Kills
Col. Treppa - 4/53 Kills - Gravely Wounded - 2 Days
Col. Pygon - 2/31 Kills

Success.
2 Sectopods
4 Drones
6 Elite Mutons
1 Etheral!

This is what they've been guarding. On a cloaked ship, defended by an alien more powerful than anything we've encountered. This must be key to our victory.

Device researched and Gollop chamber construction underway.

With Treppa as our volunteer, only the Temple Ship awaits.

Wait, what?

The Volunteer is the XCOM designation aptly given to the Psionic Soldier who volunteers to interact with the Ethereal Device and activates the Gollop Chamber. This character is essential to obtaining and participating in the final mission.

That sounds noble and heroic; Col. Treppa all over!

Is it dangerous?

Video of volunteering.

I didn't upload my own, so you'll have to imagine Treppa there instead.

You hear our voice, New One, now listen well…

Long have we watched… and waited. So many promising subjects, so many failed efforts. And now, after untold trials, the New One emerges to face the rigors of our collective… An enduring physical form, paired with an equally adept mental capacity – the rarest of traits, finally within our grasp.

Dark Archive

Does this mean Treppa was a much subtler mole this time around?!

Upon encountering Sectoids

The New One faces the earliest effort of the Ethereal Ones, the first… failure. Though possessed of a certain… brilliance… they are marred by their cowardice and frailty… which made them cruel… and ultimately useless.

Upon encountering the Cyberdiscs and Drones

Another attempt, this one inspired. Two subjects, each with a glaring weakness – brought together in the hopes of a symbiotic strength. And yet, this newfound power left them devoid of higher thought. Lacking in comprehension. Another… useless effort.

Upon encountering the Floaters

The new one faces a great foe, and an equally great… disappointment. When their organic form failed to evolve… it was given the strength of a machine, creating this… merciless, fearless, killer… A fate worse than death.

Upon encountering the Chryssalids:

A curious endeavor… the search for the Gift in the most… unsavory of beings. They were little more than insects when their uplift began… And in their failure, became the most dangerous of predators… incapable of direction, understanding, they were deemed fit only to breed and die.

Long was our search… and now… with success so close at hand, we witness the fruits of our endeavor…

Upon encountering the Thin Men:

A valiant effort… a being of intelligence and exceptional loyalty, easily adapted to serve our needs. Still, despite such great hopes… They were unable to embrace the Gift… Another wasted example.

Upon encountering the Mutons:

Now… The New One confronts a greater threat - a rare strength, found in an easily controlled breed. And yet, they are incapable of brilliance, of independence… they will never be more than primitive warriors… serving only to fight, and die, as did those who came before them.

Upon encountering the Sectopods:

An artificial warrior… created to supplement the limitations of the many… failures. Crafted with a singular purpose… it ultimately contributes little to our cause. Still, there is hope, as the New One approaches…

Upon Col. Shadowyfox dying:

The New One's kin falls, and our fear grows, as we question the worthiness of our selection…

Upon Maj. Russ dying:

Weakness… we did not expect this … weakness… another of the new breed fails to pass…

Were we… mistaken… Could this be another failure in the face of such promise? How can the New Ones pack fall to these… lesser beings…

Upon meeting the Uber Ethereal on the bridge of the temple ship

Behold the greatest failure… of the Ethereal Ones… We who failed to ascend as they thought we would.
We who were cast out. We who were doomed to feed on the Gift of lesser beings… as we sought to uplift them… to prepare them… for what lies ahead.

...

The hunt draws to a close. It was not a vain undertaking… but a necessity, as our physical form has grown… ineffective. Our search for a perfect specimen was driven by our own crippling limitation, and now, at long last…

Upon killing the Uber Etheral

This is not your path! Not your purpose! You need our guidance to hone this power… without us, what are you?

Cutscene is customized to your party, here is a generic one though...

Ending

Final Mission Result:

Col. Shadowyfox - Killed by a Sectopod Cluster Bomb
Col. Ithuriel - Knocked unconscious by Sectopods, left behind.
Maj. Russ - Ambushed by Elite Mutons, bled out.
Maj. BNW - Killed by a reflected Plasma shot from the Uber Etheral
Col. Pygon - Mind Fried by the Uber Etheral

Col. Treppa (The Volunteer) - Imploded saving the earth.

TPK victory is still victory! Good job, team.

So Tensor & Robo-Chris survived....why am I not surprised. Probably part of their plan of world-domination.

Grats on finishing rob!
