Monkey Shine and Sneak Attack.

Rules Questions

How exactly would this work? I have a player suggesting it would make the opponent flat footed since he's in the same square, but the feat itself seems to suggest otherwise. Flanking rules also say that there's the requirement of a flank to be lined up like so - A|b|C - where the capital letters are PCs, and the lower case letter is a foe.

Help?

I don't read anything in Monkey Shine that helps a Rogue apply Sneak Attack. What is his reasoning?

Sharing the square with an opponent does not cause the flat-footed condition, nor does Monkey Shine.

So, unless I've missed something your player is incorrect.

The opponent is not flat-footed.

Initial reading would suggest it wrecks flanking too.

Well, first of all, you threaten into your own space. This is already known. So if you're sharing a square with an opponent, you threaten them.

However, the rules about flanking in the combat chapter say that you have to be on the opposite border or corner, and if there is doubt (as there is here) then a line drawn between the two potential flankers' centers has to cross opposite borders of the potential flankee's space in order for flanking to actually occur. Since it does not, no flanking occurs.

We already know that Tiny creatures can't provide flanking, even though they threaten the square they occupy.

Indeed it was the tiny creature situation that sort of lead my thinking.
