Lots of suggestions, I've built a pretty large music library for games.
Nox Arcana, leans toward creepy but a good amount of non situational stuff
Two Steps From Hell, great for battles
Midnight Syndicate, great fantasy music
Adrian Von Ziegler (sp)
Bruhuville (sp)
Search the last 2 on YouTube in case my spelling is off. Choose a favorite film for any other selections. Conan the Barbarian (the original) is a great start.

My players tend to bring up their own music when we play, typically starting up two steps from hell or other cool video game songs. I usually bring up songs when introducing a new NPC who could use a song to describe his personality. Or even better, by having a song that's being played by musicians in the game itself to fill out the scene better.
For example, eventually I plan on having the party encounter a Vampire Family. The dad is a Vampire and his lover is a Succubus, their two children are halvsies. The idea here is that the Succubus will of course try to manipulate the PCs, all the while the Vampire and his children will be doing a bardic performance to help her out with that.
This is the song they will be playing:

Setting up a scene where the NPCs are playing a song provided from your laptop in my eyes gives the players a description they don't always get. I know a few GMs that show pictures to players of what certain NPCs look like, but I've only known one to do something like this.
In addition to the ones already posted, I'm a fan of this Middle Earth inspired soundtrack by David Arkenstone (awesome last name.)

Heck, David Arkenstone is pretty good with whatever you go with. His songs seem to invoke vivid images, the kind that go hand in hand with a GM's description of the setting the PCs stumble onto. Though some are good for background music like his Ambient World songs.
