Mythic Adventure Paths?

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Has anyone heard of any plans to make a full-on mythic adventure path / module? I'd love to see what Paizo could come up with on this front. I do realize that it kind of pigeonholes people who don't have the Mythic Adventures book, which is probably a good reason for them not to. I guess just something epic on the world scale that lets the writers use everything they know about the world to combine it all into something crazy.

Even just a module, I suppose, would be cool.

Wrath of the Righteous is a full-on Mythic Adventure Path. It is currently 5 books in and will end with level 20 characters with 10 Mythic Tiers.

Now, if you mean "future" APs? Probably not for at least a year, seeing that the next two APs are not slated to be Mythic. And to be honest, I'd be interested in seeing a limited Mythic path - where the players may get three or four Tiers, but not 10.

Oh, well I guess I should've done some research. I hadn't read any of the Wrath of the Righteous stuff, though I suppose the timeline in my head just led me to assume that the AP got started well before Mythic Adventures. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm currently running an E6 mythic campaign, and although the characters haven't gotten to mythic tiers yet it seems like it'll work out pretty well. I'll definitely have to look into Wrath of the Righteous some more though, thanks!

That's true, and it looks like they (apparently) aren't beyond releasing products that require other products. I think a lot of people don't know that the website basically has every single thing on it, or at least a lot of people in my area. I'll have to see how they handled Wrath of the Righteous: I kind of avoided reading much on it because one of my friends was thinking of running the AP, though that has yet/will never happen so myeh.

I'm running Wrath of the Righteous along with Rise of the Rune Lords and we are loving it. It's *very* role-play intensive, though, so if you aren't good at NPC nuance, or your players aren't good RPGers it will be tough.

Also, the second chapter, Sword of Valor relies *heavily* on the mass combat rules because the players lead an army to lay siege to a city. The rules are also on the PFd20srd and are relatively painless, I just tell you as a heads up.

Your players can start at 6 with some adjustments on your part, mine were 8 when we began; they basically just won't level until midway through Sword of Valor.

All things being equal, I highly recommend the AP, though.

Mass Combat is also available on the PRD

A general rule of thumb for the Pathfinder Reference Document is that if it's a mechanics-based thing that has appeared in a hardcover rule book in the Pathfinder RPG line, it's going to be in there. Notable exceptions are references to the 20 main deities that listed in the Core Rulebook and some of the randomized charts from GameMastery Guide and Ultimate Campaign.

Yeah, I have every Pathfinder hardcover book and frequently recommend that new players check out the Reference Document (or use apps, which are pretty robust at least for the iPad and Android) to create new characters or get a feel for the game. Really, I was only wondering if they had a mythic campaign, and it looks like they do! I was also just sort of thinking out loud as to whether the publishers would print an entire adventure path that relied on information from one of their hardcovers and also count on players to know that any missing information could be found online. It looks like they're pretty much alright with it, which is cool to see.

Same here, actually. While the books are useful in some ways, doing a search for specific terms can help find a rule quickly. :)

That said, I will admit some curiosity as to when Paizo has vague plans for another Mythic Adventure Path outside of WotR. And whether they are going to do a L1-20MT1-10 game again, or a more sedate game without players reaching Tier 10.

I have no idea what Paizo may have in store for Mythic down the line as far as PFS, Modules, etc. But, for APs, I've heard in interviews on Know Direction recently that they already have their next 3 APs planned (we so far know of Mummy's Mask and Iron Gods. The 3rd remains a mystery for now and will likely be revealed at Paizocon this year). It was stated that none of those are slated to be Mythic and that they're waiting until after WotR finishes to collect feedback on it (which will probably take about 6 months, I'm guessing) to determine if they want to do another Mythic AP.

That being said, I personally love the Mythic rules and would be happy to see more content supporting them - however, not everything should be mythic. Carrion Crown, for example, is a great AP but would be entirely wrong to have as Mythic. Rise of the Runelords, however, could probably benefit nicely from Mythic (in fact, I'm intending to update it to mythic when I run it in a few months).

I'd like to see some of these epic 3rd party AP's (Way of the Wicked, Throne of Night, Frog God's 3 or 4 APs, etc.) publishers do some Mythic APs. Wrath seems to be very popular at least here on the message boards, whether or not its heavy on the sales side, we consumers will never know. Having more and more support for the rules, whether from 1st or 3rd parties, does nothing but create a more robust landscape.

Although I haven't played much with the Mythic rules they do seem like they open the door for a lot of concepts, challenges, and abilities that players normally wouldn't have access to. My imagination--as far as making epic storylines and setpieces--can only give me so much, so seeing that other people enjoy the rules too and want to see more Mythic stuff is reassuring to me and hopefully means that Paizo will keep supporting the system.

Right now my players are doing an E6 campaign with mythic tiers that I've been trying to keep as epic as I can. It's mostly set in Brevoy and other Northern Inner Sea areas and revolves around Scandinavian myths and a sort of "Rise of the Eldrazi/Cthulhu" aberration invasion. Their first adventure was Beowulf + The Third Bear, and NPC witches can be properly creepy =D. They just got through their first combat with mythic abilities and practically peed their pants with the crazy stuff they were doing. It's a nice juxtaposition to how I usually treat PCs: not as prophesied heroes, more as the people who aren't the strongest or the fastest, but just lucky enough to come out on top despite their shortcomings.

E6 + Mythic seems redundant to me. E6 is about keeping the game small, Mythic is about making it huge.

My players in our RotRL / Wrath fusion game are level 8 and just gained their second tier, and they are wrecking balls. Pouring more power into such tiny containers seems like it would be pretty hard to do properly.

I've been on a campaign for the establishment of rules to play APs for higher-level characters; adding mythic tiers to monsters, especially if the players aren't mythic would be a good way to accomplish that, IMHO.

You mean oxymoron? It is a bit, but E6 lends itself to a certain amount of power, both with the characters and the world they live in, while 2-3 mythic tiers push them into higher level territory without them actually being higher level. It takes the place of HD in terms of crafting CR, to an extent. Besides, any time I get a campaign past 10th level my players invariably get bored. They prefer the 3rd-8th level game, so this is my attempt to see how the two systems interact. So far it's been fun, and the mythic tier the players received worked out well for the story and for the encounters they've faced so far.
