We all post here for different reasons, of course, but fwiw my experience of the boards definitely improved once I trained myself to do this.

Sometimes the flagged post is removed, sometimes it remains, but I feel like I've taken action, rather than leaving jerkishness unaddressed - without having to get into an argument with someone about why/if what they said was over the line (since let's face it those kinds of discussions rarely go well in public).

I think the flagging process is excellent - especially since paizo are always happy (or willing, at least) to see a thread like this or to receive an email where you disagree with a moderation decision. It seems to me a lot of the time people get cross about the moderation in the thread which was moderated - which leads to more, unsurprising deletions and more charges of bias/groupthink/persecution/inconsistency. Whether you like a moderation decision or not, I think it should be obvious (?) that it's a poor idea to discuss it in the thread where it happened.
