Hill giant reincarnated into a bugbear - stats?

So in our game we came upon a village of dead hill giants, and wanting to get more information out of the situation, I reincarnated the chief.

Now, the question, how to adjust the physical stats? I'm tempted to say just keep them the same, since bugbears get some good bonuses, but probably not as much in the STR category since going from Large to Medium would be a -8 penalty to STR.

Anyone have thoughts? I should point out I'm not the GM, but plan to pass along any ideas as combat is quite likely and so knowing what the bugger can do is going to be useful.

Strictly speaking, you keep all the mental stats from the giants original form and use the base stats unadjusted for racial modifiers. Unfortunately, we don't know what the base stats are for hill giants.

I would guess the racial adjustments should be something like:
Strength +6 or +8 (from racial and size) giving a base of 17 or 19.
Dex -2 (from size) giving a base of 10.
Con +4 maybe (from race) giving a base of 15.

Wait, depending on how you want to rule a base stat should probably cap at 18 without any racial adjustments. So I would guess it's a +8 for the strength.

Mental stats the same, physical stats based on the new body. Since it's a NPCs you don't need to be too worried about it. Just use the str,dex,and con of a bugbear from the bestiary and the int, wis, and cha of the hill giant.

If the hill giant racial adjustments to ability scores are not available, simply use the Str, Dex and Con listed for the bugbear entry in the Bestiary. Since reincarnate is not balanced as a means to improve or otherwise mitigate ability scores, there is no reason to think that those adjustments MUST be followed to the letter of the spell. Just make the guy a bugbear with a hill giant brain.

If it's a standard issue hill giant, then use the physical stats if a standard issue bugbear. Hopefully it won't matter.
