Nope, the half price discount is only on basic model wayfinders. It'd be pretty sweet to get some fancier wayfinders cheap, though.
It'd make sense too! What with the Wayfinder (default) being discounted and all...occupational hazard and what not.
But yea...thanks for confirming my suspicions. Guess I'll have to save up the old fashioned way :(

Yep, it's just a discount on the standard model. The Pathfinder Society can afford to offer a discount on these because they're relatively cheap and quick to produce; the discount represents 250 gp and 5 days of crafting time total.
The special wayfinders are very time-consuming and expensive to produce. The discount here could represent many thousands of gold pieces and a month or more of work. That's more of a perk than the Society can afford.

About the only legal way I know of to get a cheap wayfinder is to be a wizard and select the wayfinder as an arcane bonded object. This'll let you perform upgrades at cost when you get the spell, caster, and other requirements.
Wayfinders are not eligible to be made arcane bonded items since they do not fall into any of the listed categories.

There is a magic trait from the Pathfinder Society Primer player companion called Pathfinder's Focus that allows you to start with a magnetic compass as a focus and then upgrade it to a wayfinder for 250gp. This then allows you to upgrade it to the variant ones via the bonded object rules.

I'm aware of the fact that Pathfinder Society characters receive a 50% discount on the purchase of a Wayfinder (which makes it 250GP), but my question is whether or not the discount applies to Magic Wayfinders (i.e. Wayfinder of Revelation, Wayfinder of the Planes, etc.)
Any precedence on this?
Their is a boon that you can get that may allow for a Prestige Point cost reduction but it is restricted on how you can get that particular boon.
Other than as a bonded object this is the only other way I know of to get any kind of discount on the upgrades.Broken Prince |
You can also get a Shining Wayfinder for the low low price of 2 pp as a member of the silver crusade. If you can't cast protection from evil on a wand, that thing is a life saver.
Very nice, how do you gain access, and what source is that from? I've got at least one character who would love that.

Pathfinder Society Field Guide would have that item.

There are a couple of sources for a free, basic Wayfinder, for successful conclusion.
Now, I know one is an older scenario, since one of my 12th level PCs has a free ornate wayfinder from the Decemvirate that he got as a boon; but one of my newer PCs just got a freebie, as well, from a newer scenario.
