How Can I Get Race Boons For My Local Lodge?

Pathfinder Society

Liberty's Edge 1/5

I co-run a PFS lodge that has gained a respectable attendance. A frequent player and I were discussing goblins last night and I mentioned that certain PFS boons existed that allowed players to make characters for unconventional races such as goblins. I assumed the boon for goblins was in We Be Goblins! but I was mistaken.

So now I ask, where can I get these race boons to doll out to the folks that come out to our PFS events? Are they only in certain scenarios or are they convention only or limited time boons like Ascendance Day last month?

Goblin race boons were a GenCon exclusive. There was only 36 (i think) handed out for surviving the second part of the special. of these there is maybe a dozen left alive.

Other race boons are available like the Oreads, Kitsune, and a few others. These are normally given out at conventions. So it maybe worthwhile talking to your local VC or VL about running one.

Hey Joshua,

Currently, race boons specifically do only come from conventions. Playing certain scenarios and modules do award some restricted material, but so far not races.

I suggest you check with your local venture-officer or check the event site for events near your area. Additionally, there is a thread on these forums called "Boon trading thread" where boons (including races) are traded between pathfinders. It is rare and far between, but sometimes people are willing to give some boons up even if you have nothing to trade back. Holiday season is coming up, after all.

Race boons at conventions tend to be offered in cycles. During Season 4, the races offered were Tien-related, and were either Kitsune, Wayang or Nagaji. This season, it looks like the elemental races are being offered (Oread, Sylph, Ifrit, Undine).

As a final note, Goblins specifically were a one-time ever event back in Gencon 2012. If I remember correctly, only 37 goblin boons were ever given out, and there are no plans to open them again.

Hope that helps.

If you can organize a game day that runs enough tables you can qualify for convention support, to include convention boons. Contact your local venture officers to find out more information.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm learning more and more about the nuts and bolts of PFS every day.

Here in central Maine we are it for local PFS support and we normally support two tables but we are growing so we will regularly have three tables at each event (every two weeks). Our closest VC is in Boston but he has been awesome and, I believe, is coming up to our next event, or maybe the one after I don't recall. My partner and I will talk to him about it and see if we can swing it. Offering Ascendance Day boons last month was a really neat thing since I touted it as 'a special boon available at this session only!'

Just shoot me a mail, Josh, and I'll talk with you and Ralph about options! While Race boons come from Paizo, there's nothing wrong with giving away boons you've gotten from conventions.

I don't have a ton of boons, and very few of them are race boons, but I have a few that you guys may be able to give away as part of a raffle or something.

What we can do though, is try to organize an event that would qualify for support and get boons! We'll talk in e-mail!

And the submission of a con support request 4-6 weeks before the event, as well as the agreement to send in a post con report within a week of the event finishing.

Joshua,

If you cant get boons locally due to low table turn out. Try GMing online at online coinventions.

I think we may need to start a petition to get Mr. Brock to change his avatar...

You need to run a convention that hosts a given amount of tables. I think the number is 35 or so. And there are boons which are only given out as unique prizes at the two big cons, Paizocon and GenCon.

David, we will be in touch about figuring out boons that we can hand out to folks. Ascension Day was really neat to give out and it generated some interest. It's a really simple boon but it's exciting to know that you will be getting something that's only available once and never again. The race boons were the big ones that I thought of.

We certainly don't have nearly enough to qualify for a convention if it's 15+. We're up to about 3 tables every other week. Thanks for the input everyone. :D

Joshua: We are in the same boat. We have a 2 week turnaround and would get 3 tables or so each weekend.
