Hey was playing today and the level comp of our table put us into the 4-5 subtier of a level 1-5 scenario. A couple of the people at the table were level 2 and when things were all wrapped up and done the GM only gave the level 2 players the gold for the subtier 1-2 but the game was played in the 4-5 subtier. Should they not have gotten out of tier gold and therefore the average gold amounts between subtier 1-2 and 4-5. Just wondering if I've misinterpreted this rule in the past?

In any game in Sociaty, the character is either in tier or out of tier. This change is better for the average gold rewards and makes playing down not hurt so much.
The flip side is that the players are no longer in control of what tier they want to play, as it is the party make up that determines the tier now, with a very narrow exception note in the guide.

Yeah the folks I was playing with basically told me and my friend that we were wrong and then proceeded to insult our intelligence. Really I just wanted to make sure that I had a firm gasp on the out-of-tier gold rules and I wasn't being the hardheaded ass. Turns out though I wasn't so I think me and my friends will just avoid playing at that location or with that GM in the future. Thank you all for your help.

And, on the obverse side, other than very limited circumstances before the change, the players didn't have much control over the sub-tier that they played in before the change, as well.
