I've recently been resurrecting several older initiatives (The Guide Program, Playing Extras, Event/RP Managers, etc.) just to keep them in the public eye while we wait, but given the positive vibe of late, I think it's time for something new. This is born out of two observations I've thought true for some time, but recent forum events, and similar observations by others I chat with, have me thinking that it's time to put something into motion. These observations are as follows:

1. We seem to be more cordial and more willing to listen to one another when chatting on TS rather than posting on the forums. However, participation on PFO Fan TS has been rather hit and miss, without a topic of discussion, some may not want to devote time to just "hanging out", etc.

2. People need something to feel like they're making a contribution to the progress of the game while they wait for the game. When we're idle, we lose interest. When we've had nothing new to chew over, we rehash old topics which often leads to little more than a rekindling of old arguments. In short, we need something to do.

So while some groups are busily creating new alliances, preparing their company/settlement/kingdom structures, etc., I would like to propose something to bring people out of their respective camps and into the same community arena while this current positive vibe is still fresh.

Proposal:

I would like to crowdforge a day and time to hold a weekly Team Speak get together. The topic of discussion will be crowdforged the week leading up to the meeting. The main ideas generated in the discussion would be recorded and posted here for the sake of those who could not attend. My hope is that initiatives that various individuals and groups want to research/develop/run with will grow out of these discussions, giving many of us projects to work on while we wait for the game, and that will enhance the game once it's here. Perhaps we might even hear from GW of a topic they wish us to discuss...or might even drop in to discuss one with us.

With that said, this is by no means an attempt to take away from the Gobbocast podcasts. This would be more of a weekly gathering - to exchange ideas and grow closer as a community - rather than a more professional production focusing primarily on GW blogs. Perhaps, however, the Gobbocast crew might wish to record the meeting, though I would hope that wouldn't cut down on participation - some people get squeamish when being recorded.

If this sounds like something people would like to try, we would need two things:

1. A day & time (weekends might work best for our overseas comrades)

2. Our first topic (let's stay away from alignment & reputation). I would suggest something that has a more constructive influence on the whole population, such as crafting, settlement management, etc.

This is a good idea Hobs, if I knew others would be on and in discussion, I would try to log on - at minimum to listen.

Goblin Squad Member

I think it is a great idea, and I would love greater participation in TS with a larger cross section of the PFO community.

Goblin Works could actually help facilitate this by STICKYing the thread.

Goblin Squad Member

I think we can manage to keep the thread up top by adding weekly "agenda topics" or other points we would like to talk about (I am not saying it should be made a formal thing, in fact I think it shouldn't be...only that we can use this thread/or even another thread, to introduce or remember topics we would like to talk about).

Don't you dare think for one minute that I don't know what you are up to Hobs!! Now you show your true colors. We see what you are getting at and there WILL be retaliation!!

/sarcasm

No but seriously, I'm sure if any of us are around we'll be more than happy to engage in crowdforging.

Hit me up if you want the plug-ins and stuff we use. I can walk you through some simple editting. Shoot Rawn a PM on Pax, see what we as an organization can offer.

I can see it now... "The Green Hat Diaries"

Actually, I'm more than happy to just take notes in MS Word, but I know that will strike some as rather archaic compared to what's possible. Now, if any civic-minded Paxians with the know-how and the tools to do so wanted to offer their time and skill for the betterment of their PFO brothers and sisters, I'm certain we would all be very appreciative of their dedication to the PFO community.

See how I did that? ;)

Goblin Squad Member

love this idea

Sneaky underhanded Hobs.

Even if it was released under Gobbocast it would very much be a community effort. Truthfully we want more of that and need it moving forward.

As a plug, I will state again we are looking specifically for non Pax bloggers, podcast guests, stand in podcasters, etc as well.

I would love for both PFOfan as well as Gobbocast to both work together on this initiative.

Goblin Squad Member

Though I'm not part of a big organization, I would like to sit in on such a community discussion too. I think scheduling would be the killer for me; I work late on weekends, which is usually the better time for things like this.

Goblin Squad Member

Shane,

First, everyone is welcome.

Second, though a set weekly time would help people schedule for the event, there are two alternatives to help with inclusion:

1. We could have a rotating time each week.

2. We could hold the same discussion at two different times during the week.

I am very much aware of, and have personally benefited from, how community oriented Pax is. Any help, collaboration, joint efforts, etc. that you care to throw at this or have transition over to Gobbocast podcasts and blogs is all welcome.

I think that a list of topics could be gleaned from Crowdforging: Subjects to bring up in the future.

A good plan, Mr. Map-master. Pick a topic and let's see how many people agree with your choice. :)

@Sepherum raised the topic of divine magic. As magic and its function will be dependent of game mechanics, may I suggest discussions on how deeply do we want religious organizations interacting with play and lore?
1) We have had some glimpses on using Twice-Marked characters as a necessary component of creating new soul bind points. Should these points be in religious structures or ground? A temple/graveyard dedicated to Pharasma come to mind.
2) How active do you want your religious characters to interact/interface with NPCs?
3) Do you want to see religious settlements?
4) Do you want to see major NPC religious organizations as escolation in wilderness areas?

I must be AFK for about 40 minutes. PT for shoulder.

I do not speak for Gobbocast, but how about this proposal:

Coordinate a time between Dakcenturi, Krow, and Areks on PFOfan TS to discuss how best to release these community round tables. I also suggest that the meeting be open to anyone that wants to show up.

From there we can decide what the best method will be. It might turn out that you or someone else might need to learn the recording and publishing process, and Gobbo and PFOfan can release the result when it is submitted.

Just ideas.

Goblin Squad Member

Definitely interested, though due to an unpredictable schedule with shift-work not sure how available I will be on given days. That said, it does sound like a good idea and one I can definitely get behind.

The original intent behind that thread is for readers to post topics and + any topic they want to get into more so if that happens we get an easy way to see what the most forum-goers are interested in.

Yeah, there's a lot of communication that is lost in simple text, and voice tone helps keep discussions friendly. It probably has something to do with oxytocin levels.

I'm on Eastern US time (GMT-5), and could probably work with most times besides Wednesday evenings, because then I'm the organizer for an in-person Meetup.com group.

Is there a way to monitor TS3 channels for activity without logging into them? I don't like wearing headphones if I don't have to, and there are both the Pax and PFOFan servers I might want to keep an eye on.

It can be integrated as a feature to a website. I know you can view Pax TS activity from our home page. I am not sure if PFOfan does the same, but it is doable.

Goblin Squad Member

I wrote a long page and some how it got lost (I think I know my mistake).

Ignoring all the extras:

1) Start a new thread with process for downloading the clients, specifics on how to sign in for session at which server(s). This must be top of thread so easy to find for lurkers and newbies.

2) Well in advance announce server and times (UT is fine) label TZ time is based upon.

3) bump again 1 day before.

4) NO OTHER DISCUSSION.

5) can be used again for recurrences of same discussion server -- may consider other thread for different server unless differences are minimal

I had tried to get into two of these, at least I think there were. There were things about username passwd (do I need to use alias here, real name or ???) is my mail addressed revealed on these things?

FYI, Mac OS 10.8.5, Firefox, usually latest version to keep up with security. Hardware is older 2.66Ghz, 8 GD Ram, NVDIA GeForce 256 MB. Don't expect big things. Net speeds in the 1 MB download, up.load much slower.

I had been offered opportunity to visit websites (Pax, Emperium, T7V, UNC). I have tried some but seem to get lost in sign in process. It is hard to tell from discussions here if I really want to be part of these but these are among the larger teams.

-- giong off topic --
As far as where I am going with what type of characters, I have not seen enough about huge parts of the 'game' to really know. My PvP has been kingdom based, not 'first person shooter'. We will find out, but how will magic work9divine and arcane), harvesting (more detail), crafting, settlement construction and maintenance, soldier/military/formations, PoI (e.g. Desna temples), other player structures manors, .... How will addition of new classes or races will be handled? Free switch for limited time when first introduced or when reshod at a little crowd forging. Can exp be journalled for skill/merit badge unecessary/inappropriate for new class/race to one more appropriate? Is there a cost ($$, loss of percentage xp or required quest or 'penance').

Goblin Squad Member

Well, a bit short notice, but does anyone else like the idea of this Saturday? I have it off (first Saturday off in months!) and would definitely like to start things off on this day if we can.

Goblin Squad Member

That Saturday busy from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and then from 6:30 to 11:00 pm.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm EST, and can do pretty much any time from 10 AM to 3 AM the next day.

Goblin Squad Member

Afternoon on Saturday would be fine with me. In that I intend for Hobs to have some cleric skills, chatting about all things clerical would also be nifty.

Anyone else have thoughts?

Goblin Squad Member

@Harad Navar

Is that 8:30 to 12:30 UT?

I am still having trouble getting into
TS, but I am can be available 1700 UT, but would prefer after 2000.

If I can work through all the paces i have to give personal data to get key to next level. Why do any of you care when my birthday is?!!!!!

Goblin Squad Member

Regardless of the final topic for this or any of these community get togethers, I hope all those who have time will stop in to meet one another, even if just to hear what we all sound like. I've found chats on PFO Fan TS to be very enlightening. The pace at which topics can be covered, questions posed and answered, misconceptions of both topic and poster cleared up before they have the chance to take root, etc., all happen in a timely fashion. And if you're not the talking type, stop by just to listen. You can't really just "lurk"...we'll see you sitting there. ;)

All times for me are EDT. I think that makes me unavailable from 0430 to 0830 and from 1430 to 1900 UT.

Goblin Squad Member

So can we plan for 2000 UTC (4 PM EDT)? Or maybe we can start it and hour or two earlier than that, and other people can join in if we started too early?

Goblin Squad Member

Saturday is the only day I could attend with any level of regularity. The time doesn't matter much to me though.

Goblin Squad Member

Saturday afternoon - 3:00-4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time?
Chat about all things clerical and divine?

For those lost in time zone translation...Here

Goblin Squad Member

Sounds good to me. Lemme set a reminder for myself. :)

Goblin Squad Member

Saturdays won't work for me for the next while, but once my shifts switch again I'll try show up when I can.

Goblin Squad Member

I'll be there. However, Daylight Saving Time ends on the 3rd at 2 am so 3:00 - 4:30 EST Saturday is in DST 4:00-5:30

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah, I was thinking 3:00 EDT, though I suppose if people arrive one hour later than me it's no skin off my back. :P

Goblin Squad Member

I should be able to attend on Saturday at that time.

Goblin Squad Member

I'll be there.

Goblin Squad Member

Daylight Savings Time doesn't begin until Sunday, so Saturday from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time is still that time.

Goblin Squad Member

It actually ends Sunday.

Goblin Squad Member

Either way, it doesn't effect Saturday's meeting.

Goblin Squad Member

Well guys, I feel really bad because I'm the one who got the meeting set to Saturday, but I had someone call out at work for tomorrow and I'm covering. So I can't join the conversation. :(

Someone take good notes for me!

Goblin Squad Member

It just so happens I have to work tomorrow morning so I'll miss my normal tabletop gaming session and should be home by 3.

If there aren't any objections and if I remember and can get TS set up to the correct server I wouldn't mind stopping by.

Goblin Squad Member

Summersnow, it's a totally open conversation. You should feel free to drop by and chat if you want.

I am aware that I have at times been somewhat vocal and emphatic in regards to my feelings on certain issues in the forums which may not sit well with some people who may or may not be attending and as such feel obligated to at least offer the courtesy of asking if there are objections.

Summersnow. Show up if you want to go. It's an open invitation to chat. Not an open invitation to open a 20 page approval poll to see if you might attend...

This is a forum, and is filled with people who are highly vocal and emphatic about their opinions. I wouldn't worry about it. At all.

Your concern about potentially offending other posters demonstrates a sensitivity for others which makes you the type of person I would want to chat with. That some people will disagree is nothing new. You were as welcome as any other poster who read the invitation, but now you're personally invited. So there.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm apparently missing a password and I'm not really sure where to find it.

Any chance someone could send me a PM to take care of that?

Goblin Squad Member

OK guys! How'd this turn out? I was at work, but it's a good idea to get folks together to chat and bounce some ideas around. Good turnout? Any technical issues? Breakthroughs? New members attending?
