What monk to dip?

Advice

For my level 3 cavalier - hafling with a wolf.
Feats so far :
Mounted combat, power att body guard
I plan on so e dipping - ( with boon companion) and I think the best
Dip will be , 1 level monk, 3 level lore warden. This will add some manuvers and saves and versitility to the mounted feats I plan on taking later on.
So, for the monk - master of manuvers vs master of styles :
Manuver offer the valued extra attack and dirty trick that do t waste your round.
Master of settle offer gaining snake and crane style that will greatly boost defensive and retaliate actions per round.
Thoughts ?also - got more interesting dips offer ?

Sohei. You keep flurry in light armor, and can get any mounted feat without prereqs.

In fact, if I were you and wanted to focus on mounted combat I'd take 4 levels of cavalier for horse master, and then full on sohei.

Shadow Lodge

I second LoneKnave's suggestion on dipping sohei (which I think almost ties with MoMS in the 1 level monk dip options now) or just going sohei after Cavalier. Still, if that doesn't fit your character's style, than MoMS for crane/snake style is nice. So is Maneuver Master for a 1 level dip, as you can perform a maneuver and still full attack.

I have to 3rd LoneKnave. I read it and thought "Wow...just wow. I've found a future character for myself."

Dm allow boon companion but not horse master ...
So to keep the mount viable I can really dip 4 levels total :)
Sohei sound nice , if only he COULD flurry in armor - which FAQ says he can't ...
So - just for the free feats ? Why is it better than the style or manuver ?
I fear manuver will be great at low level and suck as levels grow - cause I got str of 14 and small size. Even with coorporate manuver the cmb won't be sky high...
So it's :
1 level is manuver master and 3 of lore warden ( manuver duable)
2 levels of master of styles and 2 ???? ( rogue? Oracle for nice revelation )
2 sohei, rest stay cavalier or go pole arm master to attack adjusent with lance
1 monk ??? 3 rogue thug/scout rest cavalier for adding effect like sicken

Actually, it was just ruled this week that a Sohei -can- flurry in light armour.

I would wait 'til you get your level 8 Cavalier ability before dipping anything.

You definitely don't want to dip two classes that give a +0 BAB at level one (Rogue, Monk, Oracle). Oracle is a particularly bad class to dip into, because of the curse.

I'm not sure what your DM's style is, but have you asked them on their ruling on this?

I can tell you my interpretation:
- The class is designed for flurry.
- The class allows Light armor.
Logical leap:
- You may flurry in Light armor.

While I'm sure there are many who would try to abuse this train of thought, that's why DM has final say (or PC vote). It might be worth it to just ask her/him. :)

LOL, you must have posted that while I was looking up the phrasing and typing my reply. But really? Where is that ruling?

p.s. I love when logic beats out RAW. We are humans after all, not machines...yet.

Level 8 is nice ( adding 3 to power att, buff of order of the dragon and aid another goes up )
Although I think you meant the order of the sword ability ?
So - you suggest dip 1-2 levels of sohei ...
I won't have manuvers but I will have big mounted capabilities...
Light armor will lower my AC greatly - so I would need to think on the value of light armor ( evasion and flurry ) vs those of plate ( dex is , 15 I think )

Sohei FAQ - Sohei monks can flurry in light armour

Nice ... So although lower AC / you gain flurry to use when opponent is too close , evasion and crane style for defence . Nice

Your AC shouldn't be more than a few points lower than normal. You can wear Mithral Chain shirt, as it counts as light armor and it still gives a pretty high AC. If you grab 6 levels of sohei, you can also Flurry on a charge (if you get the feat for it... which, considering you are getting them for free at no prereqs, you should). It's two levels out of the Boon companion range, but the mounted bonuses it gives more than make up for it imo. It also gives you the ability to wear dueling gloves; another really good reason to grab as many Sohei levels as you can.

Again, I agree with LoneKnave.

Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations.

And +5 Armor is only 25,000gp. Dirt cheap. At least much cheaper than worrying about fighting to keep your Wis top notch.

Agreed .
Although the price of magic is of no meaning since we can't buy items or create them...

But some lance flurry is nice .
Also - I might as well take crane or snake style - with te sohei it ain't bad.
I think I will go :
1-3 cavalier ( for the nice bodyguard of +4)
4-10 sohei flurry with lances ....
Than cavalier back.
Mount will lose 2 levels but at levels 10+ it matter less
