Lyrakien , Azata and Familiar

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I want to make sure i understand a ruling on companions and their subtypes.

So lets take a Lyrakien as a Familiar. It has 3 racial hit dice, and is an outsider, so it has all the benefits of the outsider template, including proficiency in all simple and martial weapons.

Where is an Eidolon, who gets all of its hit dice from a class, does not because it has no racial hit dice.

If that is correct, can it also be concluded that an Eidolon also needs to eat and breath?

I think that is correct but want to confirm. seems odd that they would need to breath being an outsider but.... Thats how the RAW seems to read.

The eidolon is a very odd outsider. But it was certainly intended to need to breathe, otherwise there would be little point in having a Gills evolution.

Or the No Breath evolution.

edit: Actually Outsiders do Breathe, they just don't need to eat or sleep unless they are native like Aasimar, Teiflings or the Elemental-blooded

Liberty's Edge

so its sounding like my assumptions were correct. The Lyrakien does have the weapon profs ect... from the template.
