Blessing of the Gods: Play mine for an Ally on their turn?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hi All,

I noticed in the fantastic game demo walkthrough by Gray Elephant Games, that one of the players used his Blessing of the Gods on his wife's turn to aid her in a combat fight (with them both being at different locations).

So basically he pulled a BOG from his hand to give her an extra d8 on her combat check. He then discarded his blessing card.

I wasn't aware and didn't read anything in the rules that said an ally can play a blessing card for another player. I would think they would at least have to be at the same location.

Anything you can do to clarify this for me would be greatly appreciated. There have been many instances where my daughter needed help on a check during her turn and I would love to play a Blessing of the Gods from my hand to assist her.

At BGG you have already received info about the relevant sections of the rules, you didn't read.
They are repeated here, for the benefit of others who may struggle with the rules:

Page 16: Blessings
Page 20: Example of Play

The problem is, most cards don't specifically say "Can assist another player with a check". But a lot of them can.

Read the pages MikMik suggested, and look for the text "Your Check", "At your Location", or "A Check" on a card.

"A Check" can usually be used to assist a friend in any area.

And, in advance, you can't use your weapons or attack spells to help kill a monster. You can only play cards that add "buffs"; increase the outcome of the same category or trait the active player is using.

You can cheer him on, or send an ally to help, but you can't actually fight his fight for him on his turn. ;)

Generally speaking, if a card doesn't say YOUR check then you can use it any time.

Note that cards like Thieves' Tools which can be used to "defeat a barrier" have an implied 'YOU' in them (effectively "you can ... to defeat a barrier YOU are encountering"), so you cannot use these to auto-defeat somebody else's barrier.

Blessings are usually fair game to play at any time on anybody's checks, though!
