So I just noticed that Sable Company Marines are legal in PFS. Anyone currently playing one? How has your playing experience been? What direction have you taken your hippogriff rider's build?
Interesting Question. Is this Ranger Archetype legal in PFS play?
My intuition would be no. In any event, what would a Sable Company Marine be doing so far from Korvosa?
But, hopefully, people more experienced with the society then I can give you a firmer answer.

Note that the "Role: Sable Company Marine" is not a prestige class, archetype, or anything; just a mounted-oriented Paladin or Ranger (neither of which can actually get access to a Hippogriff, unless the not-legal blog isn't the only listing of a Hippogriff Companion.)
Not as I have been able to find. That blog - you are correct - which is not part of the additional resources is the only known way to get a Hippogriff companion.

The Role is not the Archetype. They are two different things. Technically you can be a Sable Company Marine, you just won't have a Hippogriff mount. That said, I wish they would not waste space in the Additional Resources with Roles, as Roles carry no mechanics. Roles are nothing but suggestions for builds.

To insure legality, you might want to double check the current additional resources from 8/28. Things do change on this document as products get added and what is allowed can change from update to update. Just putting my 2cp worth.

Also a person could try to get that ruling changed and the blog added to additional resources by making a cogent and convincing argument to change things. For me, if I were to make this argument I would point to that specific part of additional resources as partly justifying the change. Something along the lines of " The flavor of the archetype is clearly acceptable for PFS, a belief back up by the allowance of the Sable Company Marine Role ,insert reference link here." I suspect it being disallowed had more to do with Hippogriffs being unbalancing in Society play, I am not saying this is a true statement, in fact I suspect they would not be.
The risk in using one part of the additional resources document to justify adding something is that shining this light on the legal item might cause it to be removed. This would not be a tantrum maneuver but rather a " Oh hey I can't believe we missed that completely inappropriate for PFS item" type thing.
Then again in this case removing the Sable Company Marie Role from additional resources is meaningless, as Roles, in the Additional Resources Document, are a meaningless waste of space as they contain no new mechanics and are in fact just a list of suggestions.
The above statement is not a statement against Roles. I rather like them. They just server no purpose in the Additional Resources Document.

Halfling cavalier druid with lance, Boon companion it up.
How would that give you a flying mount? "Boon Companion" is absolutely useless for a cavalier/druid, both classes get full effective druid level.
If you want to go for "Boon Companion", what about a druid with a Dire Bat or Pteranodon companion and add 4 levels of Fighter (Dragoon)?

In PFS, the Cavalier levels won't stack with Druid levels if your Druid companion isn't on the list provided for cavalier (pony, horse, wolf, boar at 4th, etc.), so that's why Boon companion would help if you're a Roc-riding Halfling Druid/Cavalier. Getting a few levels into Cavalier (Gendarme) helps in the Feats, Armor, and proficiency departments.

I don't know anyone playing one, probably because the experience would end up something like this:
GM: Okay, guys, you see a subterranean demonic chamber, filled with vicious beasties.
On-Foot Fighter: All right! Get ready for pain!
Flying Hippogriff Marine: Is there any monsters on the roof of the dungeon?
GM: No.
Flying Hippogriff Marine: I turn a graceful arc in the sky and survey the dungeon entrance carefully. In case something comes out. Is there anything up here in the sky?
GM: No. The rest of you, roll initiative.
Flying Hippogriff Marine: I'm lonely.
GM: You have your Hippogriff. Please stop interrupting the battle.
Flying Hippogriff Marine: Don't worry guys. The Proud Air Support of the Sable Company Marine is ready!
On-Foot Fighter: Why are you still here?
Flying Hippogriff Marine: It seemed like a good idea on the internet.
