recruiting for several games in progress

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 63 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Not terribly interested in long backgrounds... if you have them already for recycled characters no problem.
I think they are all 20pt build, 2 traits.
Starting wealth is one level lower for Serpent's Skull... for the other two standard wealth for level.
HP max first level, half-max+1 for following levels.

----------------------------------------

I am looking for a level 4 for Serpent's Skull at the end of the first module.
current party...

Dwarven Pistolero
Elven Dervish Dancer
Human Magus
Human Life Oracle

where party is... AdvPath spoiler:

Just entered cannibal camp, you would be a yet unseen captive.

----------------------------------------

Looking for a level 4 for Kingmaker

current party...
Gnome Sorceror (dragon bloodline)
Half-orc Oracle/Barbarian
Human Storm Druid
Human Cavalier/Bard

where the party is... AdvPath spoiler:

Just took over the Stag Fort.

----------------------------------------

Looking for one or two level 5s for Homebrew based in Varisia

current party...
Elf Shadow Sorceror
Sea Elf Monk
Human Inquisitor
Human Oracle of Metal

where the party is... about 1/6th through two modules worth of content.

I'd be interested in Serpent Skull and/or your homebrew; I'm not too big on Kingmaker.

From looking at the party composition, it seems what each group needs is a frontliner, though either might benefit from some arcane help as well. I'll give it a little though and see what I can come up with.

Frontliner is what the Serpent Skull players have requested. Since I don't mind them getting a little beat up, I am less picky about filling that role. What I think the party needs is a character with a "take charge" personality.

------ ------
For the homebrew we have three low AC melee and a squishy... there have been opportunities for non-combat creative solutions, but I don't see that lasting long. I am looking for two, so there is some lee-way in class choice.

The terrain is mostly forest, underground, and urban.
The enemies have been core races, aberrations, undead, typical underground races... so far with a higher than normal frequency of spellcasters.

I have no trouble playing a frontliner, and melee is generally my preference anyhow.

Take-charge type with good melee skills... Sounds like a Paladin. How well would one fit in with this group?

Paladin would work.

Great. I love paladins. I'll put one together.

Do you use any special rules with Paladins, or just as presented in the book (LG)? Some GM's allow other deities to have Paladins, and in those cases the Paladin's alignment must match the god's.

I am fine with the paladin's alignment matching the god's. The multi-class restriction still applies as though they were Lawful though.
(as in no barbar-adins... just as an example)

Feel free to post here when you get something started >recruiting<

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I'd be willing to apply for one of the games, preferably the home-brew. I have played in a kingmaker game before, but I missed most of the beginning and some of the middle sections. We also strayed from the books, so it would make it hard to meta-game on it.

I'd almost envision some bad-"a" melee halfling joining the ranks. I'll get a concept up soonish.

I'm thinking an Aasimar for the Paladin if that's allowed; Let me know if it's not. I'll post on that recruitment forum when I have him together.

Alternate Features: 1d100 ⇒ 11
Alternate Abilities: 1d100 ⇒ 99

As for the Home Brew, is there anything in particular they are looking for besides a Tank? I was thinking about a full plate tower shield specialist fighter as one possibility. Is there anything else needed? And inquisitor and the monk probably have a lot of the skill monkey stuff covered, but not traps and locks; do they need a rogue type? And as I noted earlier, they have a Sorcerer, but more Arcane help might not hurt. Have they expressed an opinion for what they would like?

I would apply for the homebrew with this alchemist who will specialize in debuffing the enemies to support the low AC melees.

@Donald - sounds good... lemme know what you come up with.

@Rigor Rictus - Aasimar is ok. Assuming you have wings from your rolled flight...you would have been abducted (in whatever way you are vulnerable to losing consciousness) and smuggled in as a gift to your current captors on this remote island. Maybe kept as a conquered pagan god.
re: other stuff - I have not discussed recruitment with them. I'd say rogue or arcane caster would be fine. One we lost was an archaeologist.

@Gromsch - First glance looks good. I'll read through it, and figure out a way to make your background work before I get back to you.

No Problem. The locations are adaptable.

Wings are cool with me. I played a winged Paladin a few years back; that's an evocative image.

Hello, what's the play method for these games? I wouldn't mind jumping in the Kingmaker game as a dwarven cleric possibly?

Hello, I would be interested in the homebrew, I can make a urban ranger that focus on skills like a rouge. Also Hello Rigor Rictus.

Bloodgargler, would the following racial trait be applicable?

Tiefling wrote:
Vestigial Wings Some tieflings possess a pair of undersized, withered, or stunted wings like a mockery of those of their fiendish forbearer. Sometimes these wings are leathery, like those of a bat. Other times they are covered with a scattering of black, red, or violet feathers. Rare manifestations can take even more bizarre forms. These wings do not provide the lift required for actual flight, but do have enough power to aid flight attained by some other method, and grant a +4 racial bonus on Fly skill checks. This racial trait replaces skilled.

As noted, this is a Tiefling trait that replaces Skilled. Aasimar also receive the Skilled trait, but don't have an equivalent trait to this one. Would you be OK with him taking it? It would be said that his wings and Angelic heritage are much more prominent than in even most Aasimar.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Darknlight,

Long time no see. We're just about wrapping up on Carrion Crown book 1; you should come back for part 2.

Gromsch:

>Scenario 1
There is an orc/half-orc settlement within 10 miles of the village where the party is. After it was discovered the well was poisoned, a rift formed primarily between the half-orcs and orcs... each side blaming the other. You now know an outside party was involved... trying to get both experiment subjects and thugs who are bribe-able with power, out of a small civil war.

>Scenario 2
Your [nephew, past student...] Drulsk, has been an assistant to a Cyphermage scholar for some time. He somehow got word to you he could use your expertise. They are in a village named Doyle's Run in Varisia unraveling a reluctant mystery, and could use your help determining what a substance found in the water could be.

@Desverendi - all play by post. For combat I post maps with updates each round or more. If that is what you are looking for, dwarven cleric would be great.

@Mrdarknlight - OK sounds good lemme know how it goes.

@Rigor Rictus - Yea that is fine. Skilled is a worthy trade

Liberty's Edge

I'm interested in the Serpent's Skull game.

The party's requested a frontliner? Did they have any preferences on what type?

For your Serpent's Skull game, I present Captain Castellus Cale. I completed the first book with him and hoped to continue on but was forced to move shortly after, disbanding our crew. He was only Lvl 3 upon completion of the book, but I can level him to 4 if need be. He was a front-line damage dealer in my original party as well as the face (since he was the Captain rebuilding his crew) despite his CHA 13. I also posted this in the attached thread.

Thank you for your consideration.

I've never done play by post before but I'm happy to give it a shot. If you could just point me at the general guidelines for the game I will read and comply :). I see the build instructions in the top post so I will start on that tonight if I can, and thanks for the chance to join in!

Hello, i'm one of the active players. Just to answer your question, not saying anything about recruiting as it isn't up to me.

My preference for frontliners is TWF fighter.

Gandal wrote:

Not tooting my own horn, but my man fights with his cutlass and boarding axe. The pistol is usually for an opening volley. The build works itself towards a viable sword-and-pistol build.

Liberty's Edge

Flurry counts as TWF right? Don't be discouraged by the fact that he's a monk. He's pretty damn beefy (50 hp).

This character sheet is buck naked as I didn't pick out any gear because I wasn't sure how much coin it would be appropriate to start with. I can adjust as necessary.

Backstory, in short:

He served on a Shackles pirate vessel for a few years but had a problem with the way the captain ran the ship. After one too many times mouthing off, he was beaten nearly to death and tossed overboard. By luck, he washed ashore on the current island where he's survived, barely, for a couple weeks/months (whatever's appropriate).

Appearance:

Slakter is obviously a half-orc but wears his orcish blood well. His tusks are small, dulled, and only slightly poke out from under his bottom lip and his ears are only mildly pointed. His skin is a greyish-olive that contrasts well with closely-cropped dark hair along the top of his head. He wears a short beard on his chin.

For what he lacks in orcish facial features, he makes up for elsewhere. He is tall, broad, and his massive frame muscled like a bull. Despite his more savage nature and imposing stature, he possess a kind of muscular ruggedness that many would find attractive.

A little about me:

I'm a regular poster that both runs and plays in several games. I post several times per day - or - at whatever pace the DM and other players set. I was the co-DM for the Skull and Shackles game on these boards that finished the whole thing from beginning to end in four months. I can link you if you're curious.

@Feral - I love the concept and all. Very awesome.

I'm not saying that because I'm a pirate either. =P

Liberty's Edge

Thanks!

Let's hope the DM and potential fellow players feel the same way. =P

OK closing interest for Serpent Skull.

Captain and Feral:

Captain and Feral... If you are willing to alter your backstories so that it was Captain who knocked Slakter off the ship (... which then wrecked), I'd like to invite you both for that dynamic. You would both have washed up on shore, and have been taking captive by the cannibals.
Now. Obviously you both applied for the same role, but considering I don't do tight tunnels - and can always add an extra foe, I am OK with that if you are.

Aemon:

Looks good so far. No hurry, but let me know when you are ready.

@desverendi - let me know if you have any questions or need help. Feel free to PM me too.

@Gromsch - Didn't finish my post... meant to say the scenarios I posted were ideas of how you might steer your recent backstory to get involved. Character looks good though.

Liberty's Edge

That's actually... awesome. I love it. We're like the odd couple except homicidal pirates!

I'm going to change his name in order to reuse an inactive alias if that's okay.

Feral, I can alter enough of it, with your permission, to say you were one of my crew who remained loyal during the mutiny. For that, you were tossed overboard/marooned on the island and I was keelhauled and left for dead. At that point, we both were rescued by a passing ship that could, with the GM's permission, have been one of the other smaller, less fleshed out ships that wrecked on the island. At that point, we could've easily been caught by the cannibals since we'd've been alone and unarmed.

I'd like to keep the integrity of my backstory mostly intact as I've had this character developed for awhile - both as a character for use in appropriate games and as a character in a few short stories and my ongoing novel. I think this alteration to our back stories could keep my original vision intact as well as expand upon what the GM is seeking. The most important aspects are my character being tossed (he's not a bad captain; just had a power-hungry first mate), the Red Mantis (my wife's character who died on the Shiv against the Red Mountain Devil), and nothing else really.

Inspiration for my character's personality is a mixture between Jack Sparrow, Sir Francis Drake, Henry Blake (from the game "Backstab") and a small bit of Edward Kenway (now that Black Flag has been announced, I note similarities between the two men).

Plus it never hurts to have a friend on the Shiv.

Liberty's Edge

I already edited mine with some liberties taken but I wouldn't mind changing it again. In my version my character was openly talking about mutiny. Ultimately, Cale did what he had to do.

That works too. I'll edit mine to reflect your additions. I could've tossed you overboard during the mutiny.

The animosity could add flavor.

Liberty's Edge

Exactly. What was the name of your ship?

Truk probably hated Cale's guts but he's not too proud to recognize that we're both in a desperate situation and that it couldn't hurt to have another pair of eyes. Depending on how much time has passed, he might have regained some sense of respect for him.

To Feral
Fury's Gambit. I have the mutiny worked into my background but didn't note Truk specifically as I mentioned Cale merely tossing a couple mutineers overboard during a brief exchange of violence before he was overpowered.

To the GM
I worked in Cale and his hiring of the Mantis as well as his taking up passage aboard the Jenivere, but paying well enough to keep his presence minimal. This will prevent too many questions from arising as to why he was not part of the current party of formerly drugged castaways. I worked in my former party for the sake of remembrance. They were rescued but Cale chose to remain behind. It was then that Cale was captured by (a separate) tribe of cannibals (as I enjoy keeping much of the flavor of what transpired with my former party).

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, that's fine. I can imagine the exchange.

Truk: You!!

Cale: Do I know you?

Truk (growling): You had me thrown overboard and left for dead...

Cale: That's right. Well, no sense in dwelling on the past right?

Truk (growling still): ...

Presenting a sword swinger for your "Serpent's Skull" campaign as her current thread dropped into the 'Inactive' listings. Will not have time to edit the character for a few days as Real Life takes priority.

Potentially, I'd offer up a different Elf...but there should only be so much saccharine....

Also, for any one looking for another recruitment thread...Linky

EDIT: And I see I'm too late for "Serpent's Skull"...Ah well...how about a 'Suny' for your 'King maker' game, good sir? (^_~)

Here you go, a basic frontliner for the kingmaker (hopefully). I don't mind beefing up the backstory if you can give me some direction on it.

I have a background up for Ǽmon. I've left some aspects a little vague intentionally at this point, so I can fine tune it as we work out more details about how he came to be where he is, and what relation, if any, he might have with other castaways.

One option that occurred to me was that he was on a ship, not as a passenger or crew, but as cargo. Captured somewhere far afield, he was being brought to the slave markets where his captors hoped he would fetch a fine price as a gladiator, warrior, or for... other... duties, given his handsome appearance. His ship was wrecked, and though he was able to make the shore, still being bound in manacles and leg irons, in addition to potentially being drugged to make him more controllable, he was an easy catch for the cannibal tribesmen, who were immediately taken by his exotic appearance.

I have an Elf Freehand Fighter available for the Varisian Homebrew...

I'll look wich of the two will be easier to include in the original story. But at the moment the second looks better. More will follow in a few hours. I just come home and my son wants some time with me.

Here is my urban ranger. He is almost done, just had a few questions that I forgot to ask when I first posted. Do you do animal companions as normal? Or do you have an house rules for them. What favored enemy, and community do you suggest for your game?

The revised background story is online.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

As there are quite afew applicants and I haven't had time to work on my character. I'll withdraw my interest so that someone else may get in and jump right on into the game.

Good for you Feral, you were very enjoyable to play with.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks.

I hope Are comes back soon. I miss Derek.

Ok thanks Donald. Door is still open if you happen to get time in the next couple days.

@desverendi - still time, let me know.

Thank you Sunset, Merick, Anumil, Evrail... I will look over what you have, and post thoughts later today.

Evrail:

The enemies have been... core races (human mostly), aberrations, undead, typical underground races (duergar, derro)... so far with a higher than normal frequency of spellcasters.
Doyle's Run (where the party is) is in Varisia near Sipplerose, Ilsurian, Turtleback Ferry... etc.
I will get back to you on your favored community class feature.

Closing interest in a few hours for kingmaker and homebrew. From first look, I think there are enough applicants. Take your time on characters, it will likely be a week before I could write people in.

Gromsch:

Thanks. I will probably write you in... in the next couple days, if that works for you.

Is Ǽmon still under consideration for the Serpent Skull campaign?

If not, I may consider could modifying him to suit the homebrew.

Yep I'm still interested, should have time to work up my character tonight, just internally coming up with the basics. Where should I be posting or should I just PM you?

? The Serpent's Skull game is still in with a chance?

Interesting.

Should my choice be dropped to 'King Maker' I have an idea for an aasimar.

Still doing reading about certain archetypes. :)

Does the DM allow the listed variations for the Aasimars and Teiflings?

Very much cheers to all.

That will be OK.

?

Check, check?

Wishing all the very best.

Svardi Eagle-Eye Male Dwarf Cleric of Ragathiel Level 4

A stern battle scarred dwarf with a patch over his left eye bearing the symbol of Ragathiel, a bastard sword crossed with a crimson wing. The name Eagle-Eye comes from Svardi having lost his left eye to a Griffon after his clan was forced to move to the surface of the mountain range north of Pitax in the River Kingdoms. The partial blindess explains his low Dex and relatively low Charisma. He has a deep hatred of goblin kind after his clan was forced from its ancestral home by a tribe and its allies.

This is desverendi, still working out the details of the character for the Kingmaker campaign.
