He died in Bonekeep 1. For half the fights it ended up being an up-down situation where every turn I'd drop him, and the rest of the party would heal him. Eventually explosive bombs plus other minions to distract completed the TPK.Seelah

Fortress of the Nail: these were a group of 6 players who were new to pathfinder, but very experienced gamers. All in all a great group. As per new rules, a table of 6 on mid tier play the 8-9 difficulty at the 4 person difficulty. For those who have played at 8-9 or GM'd this, you know why this probably wasn't enough. The opening f te second fight dropped half the party. The last one standing who didn't flee, the 4hp paladin took 111 damage in a full attack.
Indeed it was.

If you were indeed my GM, I just wanted to say I did have a blast playing under you, and you certainly scared the living crap out of me with the scenario.

YMMV. :)I don't think canines are trained to "coup de grace." For that to be true, the canine would have to be trained to attack a "helpless" person in a specific way.
A Coup de Grace doesn't happen automatically, you have to specifically perform it. There is no Coup de Grace Trick or Feat in PF. An attack dog would attack to kill a helpless person in the same deadly manner they would attack a non-helpless person. So really, no creature with Animal Intelligence should ever be executing a Coup De Grace against a PC unless this scenario has some special animal and instructions.
Glad you're happy with the outcome. :)
I think your wrong. As someone who worked with MWD's, (military working dogs) they most certainly will perform a coup de gras if allowed.

My main character died Saturday night during #05-03 The Hellknight's Feast. How did it happen?
** spoiler omitted **
Now, I was a level 5 cleric. We were at a full table of 6 players. The APL came out to 6.8, or 7 (mid-tier.) Because we had 6, under the new rules, we were required to play high tier.
Alas, having never spent any prestige, I had plenty to buy the raise dead (and I had a boon that discounted that purchase by 50%) and the TWO Restorations I needed to remove the negative levels.
It was most certainly not a pleasant experience (dying, I mean - the scenario was tremendously entertaining for me, actually.)

I'll own up to an error here. I missed the sidebar that described the scaling down rules for the 7-8 tier. I sincerely apologize, for the following issue...
I take GMing very seriously (and yet, of course, have a lot of fun doing it) and it embarrasses me to hear that my error caused a player death. For what it's worth, please accept my apology!

Ohh lord...
This tale has a bit of story to go with it.
Before setting up for Bonekeep part 2 I bought myself 2 d20 dice rings and a set of steampunk dice for that nights game in the hopes that I could try out the former and break in the latter on a thematically appropriate encounter (those who have played or gm'd bonekeep pt 2 know that one I'm talking about). Anyways the night moves on and I end up with a table of 5 for bone keep. I never even managed to use the steam punk die. By room 2 those dice rings had killed 3 players, rolled no less then seven crits, and downed at least one character turn one as he entered the room. Literally the only reason they all were not dead was because I bricked my defensive casting with all of my units in turn two. By the end of it they hadn't even managed to kill the last creature, it was just so wounded it ran away.
After the 3 hours it took to accomplish that I filled out their sheets and realized who I had just killed.
The characters I had killed were a rogue wizard played by a child, a southern gnome bard played by an elderly woman, and a human samurai played by an old deaf and legally blind man.
To make matters worse, I realized after I had finished off their boons sheets (of which they only earned the penalty and 187 gp), that I had managed to nearly blind and deafen said old mans character before I killed him.

I totaled up 8 deaths at Gencon (6 PCs and 2 pets)
# 1 Valeros stepped in to soak up the attacks of the skellies while the others healed the other fighter. Unfortunately, he could not withstand 2 attacks each from 3 skeletons and be within 10ft of the statue.
#2 The melee ranger died at the hands of the shifthing elementals. The rest of the party was able to drag his corpse out of the room and retreat.
#3 While the cleric was standaing in the doorway of the elemental room he was slammed by a water elemental into the lightening. (This was my personal favorite kill of Gencon)
#4 Ninja pregen failed to saves to the oozes' phantasmal killer.
#5 The Cleric's ape companion had INT dmg from the oozes' ability that left him unconsious at 0. At this point the party decided they had enough and left the monkey there to be consumed by the oozes.
Out of the 6 players, 3 were brand new to Pathfinder
The same 3 gentlemen who had actual characters in Bonekeep 1 also sat at my table of the Special.
The only death of the scenario was the previously mentioned cleric, when he got flanked by a babau. A crit and 2 hits with sneak attack killed him before the other cleric could get to him and cast a breath of life scroll
The table consisted of 6 players with and average party level of 5. So they had to play up with the 4 person scaling.
Luckily the rogue was able to find and disable to web swarm trap before heading down stairs. (Had it not been disabled, it would have more than likely been a TPK)
When they opened Dorianna's door the weapon master fighter got dominated. He then took a 5 ft step and dropped the rogue full to dead. (only had 10 con). The summoner then cast Protection from Evil and on the reroll made the save.
The 6th ranger's small cat could not withstand the beating it received from the ogres. The cast was the only thing adjacent to one of the ogres for 2 rnds.
