Thanks for the quick answers! I'll show the local GM the journal sheet and see if he thinks it will be good enough.

For people using Acrobat Reader, "Save As" saves only a blank copy of the form.
I just double-checked and "Save As" on Acrobat Reader 11.0.3 under Win7 saved the data I typed in to the fillable form. I opened, updated and saved twice and the data was saved properly. What are you using?

Acrobat Reader X

When selecting the "Save As" function, I get a pop-up box stating the form will be saved without any entered data.

Completing the save, the form has none of the information I entered.

No, you just need to start where you're at.

Awesome. Thank you. This solves a number of issues I was worried about.

You may want to update to XI. At work we found an unrelated bug where AR X would hang if you clicked on a file in the "open recent files" menu, so a second problem wouldn't surprise me.

I did take the time to go back over a couple of my characters to see what time frame it might be for others...

My 8th level fighter took less than 5 minutes to fill out - no shock there.
My 12th level cyphermage sorcerer on the otherhand.. still only took 15 minutes.

Assuming people have been filling out their purchases and used consumables, it really isn't a lot of work even for long established characters.

Silver Crusade

Since I have a game later on tonight, I took the liberty of filling out a Tracking Sheet (for this character).

Currently, she's level 2 (after tonight, if she survives, level 3); 5 scenarios in, it took me about 5 minutes to fill out one of these things. Almost filled out a whole tracking sheet though. (Yeah, she uses a lot of consumables).

Since I'm lazy, I'll do it later for my other characters. :)

One of the advantages of the ITS is that you mark off when you sell or use up a item in the same place that you mark the purchase.

Hero Lab's journal system isn't set up to do that. You could, I suppose, go back in to the journal where you originally bought the item and note there that you used it up, but that seems kind of clunky to me, at least for handling consumables.

Has anyone made an altered item tracker that looks like the original but does not have the wands/consumables section at the bottom?

I just realized a potential negative consequence of having GMs sign the inventory tracking sheet. I am not expecting any changes rule-wise, just perhaps a little consciousness raising.

I occasionally audit my characters to make sure I hadn't made math mistakes for things like save DCs, cash, attack bonus, whatever. I would on occasion find things of course. Between my wife and I we have ~13 characters I do the math for. But today when I was leveling and purchasing for a character, I thought about doing an audit of cash since I spent so much. The thought then popped into my head "I don't need to, the GM signs off that this was double checked". Very shortly after I also thought, as a GM I know that I can't reasonably provide the level of scrutiny to everyone else's ITS sheet that I do to my own. The net result here if everyone is thinking like I have been is that there is actually less accuracy now that GMs are signing off than there was before.

Food for thought.

GMs don't sign or initial the ITS. (First post of this thread advises such).

Thank you for the clarification, we have been doing it wrong. Sorry for not reading this full thread, rather I just searched for the most recent open one with "Inventory Tracking" in the title to post.

EDIT: After reading the first post I see that GMs are to sign the chronicles now. The net result of my earlier thinking is still the same.
