Yeah..... The faction that has a **spoiler omitted** faction mission isn't evil in any way. Sorry there are nastier factions but I can't think of a more evil faction mission out there.

Well, to be fair to that guy...:
He was certainly a player in the underworld. He'd have plenty of money to pay for his own regeneration. It's like putting soap in an unruly kid's mouth, but for adults. Who also own swords and can hire assassins.

I know a lot of these factions can't figure out a way to deal with problems except turn them into corpses, but the Szcarni know that corpsifying folks just ends up limiting your options in the long run. If everyone could just convince people to come around to your way of thinking, Golarion would see a lot less killing. Just saying.

Be less evil... Be Sczarni.

I agree Silver Crusade is e least evil. I also find most of Osirion's missions are fairly benign information gathering stuff. Sometimes you need to steal something from somebody, but it's usually something nobody will miss anyway.

I'm really happy to hear this, what with bringing in a LG Osirion character for Gencon. :)

I just threw up in my mouth a litle.

So it was starting in Season 4. But I did remember it.

Edit: Crap, I forgot to put the page. Pg 26, though that's liable to change in a couple of hours.

Cool, that should be enough info that I can find it even after the republish

Osirion was the most good faction in Season 4. All their missions were about healing a benevolent ruler. Half the Silver Crusade missions were about vandalism and burning or destroying other people's property. If I was Olysta's GM she would have been an ex paladin by half way through the season.

But the real question is "was there a good reason their property needed to be destroyed?" I don't have a problem with looting / pillaging / burning. (The character is an adventurer for goodness sake.) It's doing it cause it's easy or because it makes someone else's life easier that bugs me.

I admit I'm a little nervous about silver crusade, just because the whole "season 5 is about the crusades" thing.

What I don't like is that the faction missions don't match the faction descriptions. Since switching factions has a significant cost, and since there is no *in game* way to research this prior to joining, it leaves me (the player) feeling lied to. It would be like the rule book saying "bards get "inspire courage" which adds +1 to hit and damage" and then finding out in game that "bards just tell people that so that people will take them along and give them a share of the profits for staying at the back of the party and not getting hurt."

I also don't like the hypocrisy of "It doesn't matter if the mission you were assigned was evil, because you can still do it and it will have no effect on your alignment because you were just following orders." I want to encounter that hypocrisy as infrequently as possible.

I get what you are saying but would also argue that if you look at real world political parties through out the world what a party says it stands for and what it's actions indicate it stands for are very often two different things. I never thought of it that way in game (maybe because in real life government and strong organizations tend to make me jaded and I'm not inclined to trust them beyond exactly what's in front of my eyes)

As far as the "just following orders" thing yeah I think it should impact alignment but that's more lazy player and GM IMO

You'll be happy to note that the "just following orders" clause was removed in the most recent Guide. Your actions, for better or worse, now fall squarely back on you.

Is that so? Won't be long before we all turn evil then...

Is the Ruby Prince cured yet.. or does that get resolved at Gencon? Are we due for a Topaz Princess... an Aquamarine Count? a Malachite Mayor?

Don't be silly.

Topaz is a curate, not a princess.

Oh, that's fine. Tengu believe in a simple worldview containing a Hierarchy of Awesomeness.

1: Dragons: Perfectly Awesome
2: Tengu: As Awesome As Possible
2.3: Szcarni: Awesome Because They Have All The Shinies
3: Everyone Else: Not Awesome
3.9: Silver Crusade: Totally Not Awesome
4: Drandle Dreng

Any acts that some might call evil aren't actually evil when they are enacted upon someone lower on the Hierarchy of Awesomeness, because those acts are really just common sense.

Squinty eyes hmm... looks like detect evil - Silver Crusade violates your rights!

Silver Crusade 2/5

I'm not a paladin, and never prepare detect evil. "Silver Crusade violates your rights"? "Shadow Lodge makes baseless accusations!"

Besides, I wasn't squinting; I was closing my eyes in quiet resignation to the fact that I face more prejudice as a bringer of light than I do as a tiefling.

Hey, at least now it's a result of your actions & choices rather than something you have no control over!..

Silver Crusade 2/5

Yes, being accused of violating someone's rights by using detect evil, when I've not done any such thing, is definitely an example of "a result of my actions & choices rather than something I have no control over". Excellent point, Irnk.

.

Actually, I was referring more to choosing Silver Crusade...

Being a Paladin myself, I rarely bother with Detect Evil, honestly. If I'm squinting/glaring at a body, it's usually because the sun is behind them or I've just witnessed them doing something stupid/heinous (or stupidly heinous, or heinously stupid; usually the latter...)
I let others actions determine whether or not I Smite.

I've met a lot of tieflings, and I can safely say that the ones who don't use that ability that makes everything go dark where I start running into things probably rank about a 2.9: Generally More Awesome Then Average, Provided They Let Me Have The Shinies.

If not causing darkness gets me up to 2.9, then where do I land when I channel Iomedae's light so fiercely that it literally shatters all darkness in its wake and cannot be snuffed? :D

Silver Crusade 1/5 *

Neither of my tieflings have the ability to make it so dark the hairiest dwarf couldn't find his beard, but one of them is a silver Crusade. How does that average out?
