Gauntles and monks

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

When using gauntlets as a monk to perform unarmed strikes do I...

1.) use the monks unarmed strike damage?

2.) Do said unarmed strikes use the gauntlets enhancement bonuses?

Shadow Lodge

Why does your monk own gauntlets?

Shadow Lodge

he wants to see if he can buy gauntlets to allow him to gain enchantments, abilities, and other abilities that the gauntlets would grant while keeping his monk unarmed strike damage. As it stands the gauntlet states it treats you unarmed strikes as lethal.

Unarmed Strikes for monks and anyone with the Improved Unarmed Strikes feat are lethal anyways. And I don't believe you get to keep your unarmed strike damage when using weapons to improve unarmed strikes like gauntlets and brass knuckles and such. I think there might be a FAQ entry somewhere that states this but I do not know for sure.

Your player would have the choice of:

1. Using the gauntlet's base damage, +weapon enhancement/ability

or2. Unarmed strike damage.

can not combine them though.

Shadow Lodge

Monks can make unarmed strikes with any part of their arms, legs, or head. Wearing gauntlets means 1d3+enchantment or xdx monk damage. If you want enchantments, then there is this nifty item called an AMULET OF MIGHTY FIST! optimal? no. effective? yes.

you can enchant the monks fists you don't need to get gauntlets for them.

Shadow Lodge

You can't enchant the monks fists because they aren't masterwork weapons. AMoF works though, or you could permanency a Masterwork Transformation spell on them (GM discretion applies) and then enchant them.

doh i knew i read something wrong. but yeah i would do the permanent masterwork transformation spell or AMoF and then enchant.

Silver Crusade

If you're wearing gauntlets, you're not making unarmed strikes with your fists because they aren't unarmed.

If you want to add enhancement bonuses to your unarmed strikes, buy an Amulet of Mighty Fists.

Shadow Lodge

Wait. Can you use masterwork transformation on a monks fists?

1.) From what I've been told repeatedly, you cannot use your IUS or US damage through Gauntlets :T I wish we could brochacho, but alas. I'd seek a FAQ that I'm sure has been posted on this, but I'm not feeling the googling tonight. It's even listed as Unarmed Damage in the Weapons section... but alas, it's not meant to be used that way.

2.) Yes! Gauntlet damage with whatever enhancements are on there. So technically it's not using Unarmed damage, but rather the Gauntlet's damage. It's equal to using a Sai or Kama pretty much!
