How many hands do you have?

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

In all of the role playing games that I have played, a wizard needs two hands to cast magic. I now have a player who says a wizard only needs one hand free for the material spell components.

I can not find a ruling in Pathfinder. Can someone help?

One suffices. That one hand can manipulate foci, material components and perform the required somatic components.
Oh, and also touch any targets as needed.

Your player is correct, he only needs one hand free.

To wit:

Magic Chapter wrote:
Somatic (S): A somatic component is a measured and precise movement of the hand. You must have at least one hand free to provide a somatic component.

(I personally have two hands)

It's in the Combat section, under Actions, Standard Actions, Cast Spell:

"To cast a spell with a somatic (S) component, you must gesture freely with at least one hand. You can't cast a spell of this type while bound, grappling, or with both your hands full or occupied."

edit: yep, I figured it was in the magic section too, but I only looked for one source. One source for one hand...

Scarab Sages

Thanks
