Item Creation - How to price when the use is in increments

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi all,

So I see how to price uses per day, but I am looking for something to deal with this example...

Let's say I have an item that let's me cast darkness twice per day, and it lasts for 3 minutes each time.

How would I price it to say, last for 6 minutes in 1 minute increments.

Similar to some items which have x rounds of use, but can be used in 1 round increments, or x distance used in 5ft increments etc.

Somehow I think this should be more costly since you are getting the same duration of usage only it is more versatile to be able to turn it off and save it.

Any ideas, and if it is posted somewhere I prefer to read it myself, I just can't seem to find it. Thanks

you price it as an item that can cast darkness at caster level 3rd twice per day.

Ashiel had a cloak she designed that could use 3 minutes of invisibility per day broken up in 1 round increments as desired for 4800 GP in one of her threads. it was an amazing rogue fix.

It's not posted anywhere or in any of the books, but like Lumiere said, you'd just use the same price. It's too small of a difference to worry about changing the price. If you find some of the existing items that break it out into rounds, they often don't change the price either.

Boots of Speed are a common example of that type of item. I've shown the construction math below, and you can see that there was no extra charge for dividing the duration. Given what a powerful ability Haste is, I think it's safe to say that dividing duration simply doesn't cost extra.

Some math:

Continual Haste: SL 3 x CL 5 x 2000g = 30,000 gold

1/day Haste for 5 rounds: (SL 3 x CL 5 x 2000g)/(5/1) = 6,000 gold

2/day Haste CL 5 for a total of 10 rounds: (SL 3 x CL 5 x 2000g)/(5/2) = 12,000 gold

1/day Haste CL 10 for a total of 10 rounds: (SL 3 x CL 10 x 2000g)/5 = 12,000 gold

Oh, ok thx, I appreciate the fast response.
